Has Anyone Got Their Cass Creek Remote Predator Calls Yet?

Haven't received mine yet (supposed to ship out tomorrow). I'm curious as to how well it works myself. Wanted a very light weight ecall to carry on me when I'm out and about and not actually on a calling hunt. Will post when I try it out, hopefully this weekend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Took the CassCreek Nomad out behind the house this morning and as you would expect, it has its pros and cons. The remote has good range for my use of the call. I set the receiver out at 73 paces (to my fence line)and it worked great with complete control of the sounds volume and on and off. Didn't try the receiver switching or sound motion features since I only have one receiver, but messing with the receiver buttons it works on all 3 channels great. Unit is good looking and pretty compact even thought it is larger that their non-remote units due to the larger speaker. Sounds are the same as on the predator 1 cass creek- jack rabbit/cottontail/howls/yote pup & fawn. NOW for the down side. Transmitter ant. was in the up postion when it came out of the package. It wouldn't push back in the case so the screwdriver came out. It's permanently it the up position.(a little inconvience, but not alot). The 3" speaker is good at low to mid range but will distort at the upper range. Volume is pretty good for the small speaker and after I took my moto-tool to the speaker cover and opened up all the louvers it is much louder. Downside to the volume- on the receiver you can control the sounds from a whisper to full volume, on the remote the volume buttons won't take the volume down below 1/4 volume or so no matter where you might have the receiver set. I'd prefer to be able to get it down to that whisper area instead of turning the volume off. Another thing before I quit this long winded post, The receiver doesn't have a port for an external speaker, which I would have liked to see. All in all- for the $54 shipped that I paid for it, it really isn't that bad of product. It will fit in my coat pocket, or in my belt pouch and will be there when I don't have the JS with me and want to get the sound away from me better than the mouth calls will. Hope this "book report" helps ya!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Should be getting mine, here shortly.
Thanks, for the report.

I'm not expecting much..[for that price]. But wanted something to back-up my hand calls. As I would enjoy, getting one in real-close /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It arrived today. I did a little yard/field testing.

Came with [all] batteries installed.

Remote worked well, out to 70yrds. Past that, it was hit/miss. I purposely had some leaves & small tree limbs. In between the remote & the call, as I switched call noise's & [hi-low volume control].

Sounds; Jack = Good, except on high volume = distortion.
Cottintail = Good, Same as Jack, on high volume.
Coyote howls = Good & clear.
Coyote pup yips/howls = Good & clear.
Fawn distress = Good.

Overall, I'm satisfied with it & what it cost me.

I was a little disappointed in the distortion of the sounds. Mine are not particularly clear anywhere above mid-range. I think I will try connecting an external horn to the speaker wires and see if that helps. The volume glitch of not going below 1/4 with the remote is wierd. I don't know why they designed it that way.

I haven't tried to determine the range yet, but if it goes to 70 yards as previous posters have reported, it will get the sound far enough away to distract the yote's attention.

The remote is small and easily operated. I wish the antenna would retract as I can see busting it off in a coat pocket pretty easily.

It's worth what I paid, but it won't replace a FoxPro.

Done asked the wife to get me one for christmas....I carry my old stype in the pouch of my foldup camo chair, right along with my extreme predator decoy....hope the antenna thing don't mess me up.

Tried mine in the field. In an open area it worked at close to 100 yards. I didn't try any further. Nothing came to it. But really didn't expect anything. I was in an unfamiliar area of Central Oregon desert and there was no sign anywhere. Right now they are all in the high mountains or barnyards. The distortion is pretty bad at high volume, but I don't think you need to run it that high. I doubt that a rabbit can make that much noise.

is this the cass creek nomad w/remote for about $50 yall are talking about?
if so would someone take it hunting and report back i would love to know if in calls anything in.
thanks

Mahamari & I went callin. Wind, SowWester @ 10mph. I set-up along a North/South fence line, on the edge of a timber patch. Over-looking a timbered creek, down the hillside 70yrds. Open picked-corn, below & to my right.

Mahamari was set up, East of me 100yrds along a grassy North/South fence. Over looking the same creek bottom.

Turned on the [Cass-Creek remote Nomad]. Used Jack & Cottin-tail distress's back & forth. Fifteen minutes went by...nada. Then I switched between the coyote pups & both rabbit distress's, simultaneously.

Ten minutes went by. I continued with those 3-sounds. Plus used my [Hunt-n-Carve] "Indian Head Call" [cottin-tail voiced] over the top of the Nomad sounds. Also threw in a handfull of "lone-howls" & some yips.

Another five minutes....Then, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM! Mahamari trying to connect on a flying coyote with his 22-250. I never did see it. Coyote dove into the creek, getting outa Dodge /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

We then went road-spotting. 1/2 hr later we seen a big ole boy[Gold & mousy Gray], running a picked bean. We tried to head him off, lost sight of him...Game over. Had a good time, regardless.

Good to be back in the field.
