I was wondering if anyone out here has a Hastings slug barrel for their Rem 870. I am looking to get one from Cabelas and am on the fence between the 20 inch matte barrel or the 24 inch gloss barrel. Looking to see what owners would suggest and what slugs work best in them.
Thanks!

I bought a Hastings Remington 100 barrel slug barrel from Cabelas and returned it.A warning label was placed in the box by Hastings saying "do not " shoot copper jacked slugs from this barrel. The barrel metal was so thin I could see why. If you can't shoot copper slugs in it why buy it.

The Hastings barrels and made in "France" I guess it's there pay back.

I bought a T/C Encore in 20 Gauge as a replacement

I had the cantilever also and it really liked the Lightfields. The biggest problem I had was whenever the bbl. was removed, then remounted, the point of impact changed.

I have two Hastings slug barrels. One on my Wife's 11/87 the other on my Beretta 390, both are 24 inch models. The 20 inch was not available. I do not think that you will notice a big performance difference between the two lengths.
The warning on Hastings barrels is for solid copper slugs not copper jacketed slugs. The warning is specifically for the early model Remington solid copper slugs. The warning states that the new model Remington slugs are fine. The problem was not with the Hastings barrel it was the Remington slugs! Hastings was not the only one to have trouble. They were the only one to put a warning about them on their barrel. Remington made changes to their slug which have apparently fixed the problem. I happen to use the Remington copper solid all the time in both of our Hastings barrels!
Good luck,
Tuco
