Well, have ya?? How about using a turkey decoy?

New to the game, wondering out loud...........

This morning a friend was turkey hunting on my place and saw a coyote easing about with a young jake still in a tree; sorta gave me the idea.

I've called and killed with a double reed diaphragm turkey call. It wasn't with turkey sounds, though. It was howls and distress sounds. I bought it to call predators. I've never hunted turkey.

Jim, I had a coyote come in on me yelping during turkey season and have added that to my arsenal since. I have wondered if you put a turkey decoy out in a field and laying it on it's side or making it look injured how effective it would be, I will have to give it a try.

driving down the highway the other day and seen a single turkey out in the field then noticed a coyote crossing the road about 200 yards ahead of me headed to the field so i pulled over to the side and jumped out,the turkey flew away and i sat there and stared at the coyote for a second and he trotted away, all and all the coyote noticed the turkey from about 300 to 400 yards away from were it came,so i think i saved a turkey for hunting season comeing up.

Yup. This time of the year it works pretty well. Got a couple dozen different sounds on the Ipod that I run through the foxpro.

I had a coyote come in to hen yelps last spring while turkey hunting but by the time I saw him he had already winded me and was on his way out.

Four or five years ago during spring turkey season I was using a mouth call, no decoy, up on a little ridge in a brushy area that had been logged a couple years earlier. Turns out this yote was stalking my call; due to the terrain, with a little hill to my right, I didn't see him until he saw me when he crested the hill about 20 yards away. I was able to stand and swing my shotgun to the right in one motion as he whirled and tried to run away. He didn't make it--I dropped him right there, it was SWEET! I guess my calling was good enough to fool a coyote, but not a turkey as my tag went unfilled!

I've seen a Coyote chasing after 2 Turkeys that flew up from our bottom field to the Ridge Top Field...so I'm betting if a Person used a Turkey call and decoy You could very well get a Coyote to come in for a shot!

We can't hunt Coyotes now (April 1 to May 9 ?)with the up-coming Spring Turkey Season so I haven't had a chance to try it out since now would be the best time and we can't shoot them (Coyotes)!

I've had a coyote come in while I was calling turkey.

I was trying to find a shy jake that kept gobbling to my calls once I got close to where it was coming from there was nothing, figured I scared it off somehow. After sitting down and calling for another 3 or 4 minutes a coyote came out around 60 yards away, figured that is what shut the turkey up.

I intentionally went after some 'wise' 'yotes using the decoy AND FX5 with turkey calls on it. Worked twice in one week; second time netted me an OLD b^&*h coyote.

To answer your question: Yes, it does work!!!

Years ago I had one come in at dawn while calling turkeys in the spring season. He was maybe 10 yds with the 12g pointed at his chest.Lucky for him we have no spring coyote season.Well....that and I knew there were other hunters in the area otherwise....

Yes you will call them in with turkey sounds but you can also can take just about any ole turkey diaphram call and make distress sounds and coyote howls with them. People have been doing it for years.
