Heard them!!!

Not the post some are used to, but I’ve been in a dry spell for just hearing a coyote!! I’ve been going in the evenings some listening and trying to illicit a response but haven’t heard or seen a coyote in about 5 months or so.
Woke up real early and went to check for hogs and decided just to hit the caller in a couple spots while it was still dark hoping I’d hear something.
Second spot I played a duet howl and what sounded like pups lit up to my North and the adult started howling/barking to my West. I’m not quite sure if it was a booger bark or maybe upset it was separated from its pups when a “new coyote” showed up.
I didn’t play another sound, just marked them on OnX and walked back to the truck.
I know this isn’t the normal killing post, but it’s been a WHILE for me!!
Now I just have to wait for a good wind to try them!!

About 70% of the coyotes we kill do not make a sound. They just show up, or not.
True, but it helps if I know some are around before making a call. Sorta like trapping, I can put in 30 sets, but if the property isn’t hold any coyotes I’m just wasting time.
Our area is a little different than out West, I have to be able to see them in order to kill them. If I can get them to answer or just make some noise, I can determine an approach where I have the best opportunity to be able to see and kill. I can “guess” all day long, but if I guess wrong then I’ve accomplished nothing but educating them. Yeah, 2500ac will have coyotes somewhere, but it’s the where and how to park and approach that kicks my butt most of the time.
