hearing protection during hunting

I tried electronic muffs. They sucked in the wind and the muffs don't allow me to wear my full brim hat. Ear plugs muffle sound too much. Maybe some of the more expensive electronic ear plugs would be good.

What I fuond works good is just some rolled up toilet paper. Takes the edge off the muzzle blast and I can still hear pretty well. The hallow plugs sound interesting.

I always wear plugs and mufffs at the range or other high volume shooting.

Skinned I would love to get a can but I don't think there legal in mn, skinned do they really make itthat quiet, I've never been around one

Skinney it looks like you have some bigger caliber ars, if a guy wanted a 260 rem in a ar-10, what would you recommend

plus i want to hear my bullet hit the flesh on a perfert shot....

No more hearing protection for me!

My .243 and .223 are both threaded and i will be hunting Thurs - Sunday with my new AWC .30cal Thunder Trap!!

WOOT WOOT!!!!

Update on my hunt last weekend!

7 dawgs down and i shot 3 of them with my suppressed .243 and TR shot 2 of them (Double) with his suppressed .223

5spd shot 2 un suppressed! Hahahahahahahaaaaaaa

The Peltor tac let you hear better on stand, you will be amazed how much more you can hear. At least twice they've let me hear a coyote running before I saw him. When the wind blows you just have to turn the volume down. Use it or lose it.

Back in the old days, Catskinners "bulldozer operators" used to use the filters from cigarettes to help control the noise from equipment. I guess anything is better than nothing. I too use ear protection in high volume shooting.

When I use to do a lot of skeet shooting the club had someone that made custom injection ear plugs that had the amplification in them. They were nice just expensive.

Back in the day we used a product call "Lee Sonic" ear protection. Ear plugs with mechanical cams that closed at higher decibels, allowing for normal hearing at regular decibel levels. I have recently found a similar but plastic product at Gander MT pretty cheap-

I never fire a shot on the range, during a comp, or hunting unless I have my ear protection on.

I have the electronic Howard Leight Impacts. They work very well. They amplifiy nicely when hunting/calling and they shut off good when a shot is fired. I will not go in the field without them. I've used this same pair for about 2yrs now and I hunt and shoot alot! They have held up very well.

You guys that say you don't need hearing protection while hunting are just being foolish and your doing damage to yourself regardless of what you think. I have high freq hearing loss in my left ear and this damage came from HUNTING. I stared shooting and hunting when i was 9yrs old. My dad never used hearing protection in the field, so naturally I didn't either.

Hearing hearing protection needs to be viewed as must, not a option. There are many things in life that may be a little uncomfortable, but we get used to it and adapt. I'd rather adapt than be deaf, especially when it's totally within my control.
