i was looking for some input about hearing protection, i know its good to have and i ware it anytime im shooting rec or range because shooting as a kid already damaged my hearing. i am tone deff in my left ear. i however dont ware it when hunting, i find it much more critical to hear game coming than waring ear plugs for one or two shots. i know there are products out there that alow you to hear but still protect you from the shot. what i was wondering was what do you do for hearing protection, do you ware these electronic earmuffs or do you justput earplugs in just before the shot or what.

If you like to hear animals coming in, then get a set of Peltor Tac 6 electronic ear muffs. When I started wearing them yote hunting, I could hear the feet often of yotes on either side of me and behind me, doves flying over head(they make a little peep, peep, peep sound as they fly), and could hear crows talking to each other as they approched my location.

During deer hunting, I could distinctly tell the difference between a deer walking in the leaves, turkey scratching, squirrel digging in leaves, etc.

I ordered a pair of the new Peltor Tactical Sports from Midsouth yesterday. I've used muffs at the range for years now but I plan to never shoot again in the field without plugs or muffs of some sort. I've heard good things about these muffs so I'll see for myself in a few days!

Words of warning---Keep electronic hearing protectors dry. If they get moisture inside, the electronics can corrode. Don't just take them off and throw them in your gear. Keep the earmuffs apart for air drying or if really wet take them apart and dry with a cloth, kleenex or something dry.

I ruined a nice set of Peltor 7s that way.

That's where the in-ear type really shine, if you can keep your ears dry, they'll stay dry. They don't make you sweat in warm weather either, for hunting, they can't be beat. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
