Help, I need some advice on a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x44 scope

I am about to procure a scope for my new AR being built and after reading the reviews I think the Zeiss will fit the bill. I am thinking about the new Rapid Z 600 reticle. This reticle seems to be a bit busy for shooting at predators but I shoot a lot of paper as well. Does anyone here have any experience w/this set up and if so what are your thoughts on this scope/reticle choice /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif. I can get this for $650 new so I am thinking the price is right. Thanks

I have the same scope but not the gun you have. Mine has a Z-plex reticle which is fine for me and my varmint rig. My opinion is it's a great scope for a varmint or target shooting but a poor choice for hunting. I say poor choice for hunting because it has a parallax (focus) adjustment on the side and that is not a convienient thing to do in the field when a quick shot is needed.

I have the Zeiss 4.5 X 14 with the Z plex mounted on a .17 Volquartsen. Extremely nice scope with repeatable clicks. The side focus allows you to change the parallax without reaching in front of the scope twisting on the objective. Any worthy scope with that much magnification will have a parallax adjustment. Just put it on 100 to hunt with and go from there. Have no experience with the rapid Z but I now have 5 Zeiss scopes.

I will be able to tell you more about how "busy" it looks tomarrow night, Mine should be here by then, I hope. I got mine in the 3.5x10

I like how the calibration is used with the Rapid-Z, figured I would give one a try.

Like Ken; I have (5) of them, but none with Rapid Z. Two are 4.5-14 and suit me fine for hunting, target, or whatever. GREAT SCOPES; BUY IT!!!!!

I just got the Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 for $630 shipped on ebay. It was new in the box, came from a guy that has an ebay store. I would recommend checking ebay. When I was looking there was a few new ones on there all the time..

That was a great buy. I can't find a deal of that magnitude on eBay presently.

I wonder if the difference in the 50 mm as opposed to the 44 mm objective offers any real advantage one way or another?

It depends on how high a power you will be using in low light conditions. Since using high power in low light is not normally done, it is usually a waste. A 44mm will deliver just as much light as anything bigger for a 30 year old up to over 6X. For a 50 year old a 44mm will deliver as much light as your eyes can use to over 8X.

The scope I got (Zeiss conquest 4.5-14x50) was by far the most expensive scope I've ever bought, the next best scope I own is a VXII. I looked at several scopes in this price range, and I talked to several people. Everyone said Ziess was amazing and they say it's even more amazing in low light conditions..

That being said I figured with the 50mm objective, the light gathering ability would be maximized (even at higher powers). I just figured if I was gonna spring for a Zeiss I might as well go all out and get the larger bell. Once I made that decision I was prepared to spend around $800. But like I said before, I got a great deal on ebay. There is another one for sale, just like it, by the same seller right now. Item number 360029413966.

This is just my $.02

You buy what works for you, but I thought you might like to hear my experience since I just got done shopping for nearly the same scope you are shopping for.

I wish I could tell you how it performs but I haven't used it yet. I'm waiting for my rings to come in the mail. All I've done is look through it out the back window.. it's very clear, a very excellent scope.
