Help me out on Another Ar.

I am looking to build an another ar rifle. Am going to be using this for deer, yotes, and hogs if possible. I have a 5.56 ar already for my yote rifle but would like to have a second for deer and to have an extra to see if I can get a friend to go out.
I don't reload so I know thats going to cut alot of it down.

6.8 spc
300 blkout
7.62x39

Now if I can't decide on one Ill go with another 5.56 but we can't use those for deer here.

Also anyone know on good deals on some uppers I know I missed the sales friday!!

300 BLK is a great choice for 250 yards and below. You can use the same magazines and bolt carrier group that you already use for your 5.56 AR. If you reload you can use 5.56 brass. There are a ton of manufacturers on board with the cartridge so you will continue to see more ammunition choices as time goes on.

6.8 is a better medium range cartridge but uses a different magazine and bolt. If you decide to reload brass is significantly more expensive than 5.56, about 10-15X.

7.62x39 has some issues with reliability in the AR design due to it's tapered case. 300 BLK with it's higher ballistic coefficient bullets surpass 7.62x39 ballistics at about 100 yards.

Why not the 6-6.8 go to Black hole weaponry forum and read up on it. You can get factory ammo also from tactical ammunition.com. its about $58 bucks for a box of 50 and Ritch Johnson can build ya one.

That does not sound like a wise choice. I just checked tactical ammunition.com and it's actually $65 + shipping per fifty and they have exactly one loading. A 58 grain V-max. That is hardly an ideal bullet for medium sized game such as deer. The OP doesn't reload so that would leave him with a single varmint load that can be obtained from only a single vendor. That kind of availability make factory 6x45 loads seem ubiquitous.

Well since he alternative decision is another 5.56, I find that the 6-6.8 would be more then sufficient. There has been more deer then you can imagine killed with 223 or 22-250 and a vmax. Not my first choice but will do the job. I happen to know the guy who has worked with tactical ammunition in designing the load for the 6-6.8 and there is a huge future in this chambering. I wouldn't have recommended it if there wasn't any potential. The 6x45 is another good choice which now has factory offerings. Along with the 6.5 grendel. Im just trying to throw out chamberings that offer factory ammo and are a good cross between whitetail and predators.

Since you don't reload I would seriously look at the 6.8 spc or possibly the 6.5 Grendel. These two seem to have the biggest push for ammunition in box stores and online. SSA has a wide variety of ammo for the 6.8 and online you can find wolf for the 6.5 for plinking etc.. Both would be well suited for what you are looking for.

I agree with the 6.5 or 6.8 options. They're both great rounds and there is a decent amount of ammo available. And I'd bet there will be even more in the future.

The 300 black out is looking very good for factory ammo. A d I'm sure it's going to be around for a while. I'd really look hard at a 300 black out. No special bolt or mags. There's some good factory ammo for $15-19/20. That's hard to argue with.

I am uneducated so don't flame me but isn't the 300blk intended purpose as a subsonic platform? I only say this bc living in Kansas like the original poster I would like the option to have a little further range with my gun than 100-200yds without having to hold over a mike high. But like I said I have not researched the 300 enough.

The blackout is certainly a great round when sub sonic and suppressed.

But it can be used as a big game and especially a predator round.

A 100 yard zero with a 155 Can give you decent deer hunting trajectory and energy.

Muzzle Velocity of 2020 FPS
100 yard Zero 1840 fps. 1170 FPE
150 yard -2.9" 1760 fps. 1065 FPE
200 yard -8.75" 1676 fps. 967 FPE
250 yard -17.7" 1596 fps. 877 FPE

These numbers are variable, of course, depending on environmental conditions, but gives you an idea of what it can do. High BC bullets really help this round to keep on a chugging.

The 300 Blackout is a dual purpose cartridge. Using lighter 30 caliber bullets it produces ballistics similar to the 7.62x39 cartridge in the AR platform while using the same bolt and magazines as a 5.56/.223 AR. The 300 Blackout parent case is the 5.56 so brass is cheap and plentiful.

It also performs very well as a suppressed short barreled rifle firing subsonic 208-220 grain projectiles.

It is designed to deliver maximum performance with 12-16 inch barrels. This is the ballistic chart for my 300 Blackout hunting load I worked up using Hornady 130 soft points.
