I am attempting to reload for my Marlin model 1894CL Lever action rifle in 32-20 Win. caliber. I am confused /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif as to what the PROPER bullet diameter is for this weapon. I want a semi or half jacket bullet in 85 or 100 grain weight. I have read that the diams vary from.308, .310, .311, .312, .313, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif ZOIKS!! Where is the best place on-line to order bullets other than Midway with a good selection and what diam. do I use in my Marlin lever /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif. Thanks, Rich.

You need .312 in jacketed. .312-.314 if using lead. Have had good luck with the 100 H-XTP in a 32-20 Marlin.

Savage,
It is a pistol bullet but seems to work well at 32-20 rifle velocities. There was a time when 32-20 pistol and rifle amo was the same. Rem factory amo is the same for pistol and rifle.
I have wanted to try this bullet on coyote but havn't had time.
I have had good luck with 118 grn lead bullets and unigue if you are just wanting to shoot for fun.
The old hornady manual shows the 85xtp at .312 and a 110 grn .308 plinker(1/2 jacket) for the 32-20 rifle loads. The 308 would be under size and may not group well in the marlin.
.303's are 311 and 312 but much too long and heavy for the 32-20.

In my research, 90 - 115 gr bullets seem to fit the 32-20. Lead bullets need to be sized to your bore, for best results. Jacketed bullets that are appropriate are 312 diameter, I believe. When in doubt with lead bullets, try 313 dia. This usually works in my Colt Bisley, however the TC Contender pistol was set up with 308 dia bullets for silhouette shooting, if memory serves. Slugging your barrel would be an exceptional idea, especially with a 32-20.

Savage, The best thing you can do with the Marlin is to get rid of it. I don't think you want to shoot it. There are too many better rounds that you could use. Since I really like helping you out so much, I will take it off your hands. I don't want you to suffer with it. I am just trying to be your friend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seriously, that is a fun little round. The Marlin 1894CL comes with a .312 bore. Hornady makes a nice little 85 grain jacketed bullet that will work well in it. You can shoot .308 bullets in the rifle, but you will need a .308 expander.

Send me a PM with your address. I have some cast, swaged and lubed bullets that should be fun to shoot in that rifle.
