Help with a custom 243 build

I have a Weatherby vanguard S2 chambered in 243 win that I just can not get to shoot as good as I want it too. I put a bunch of money into this gun to try to get it to shoot (bell and Carlson medalist stock, bedded, ton of load development) and now I am thinking about getting a hart barrel for it and have it chambered in 243AI. How do you guys like this cartridge? I have a few questions though. Will the magazine still work with 243AI? I am thinking about getting a 24" or 26" barrel with a 1 in 9 twist, I am planning on shooting 85-95 grain bullets. I want the barrel diameter pretty close to the factory barrel. How do I know what diameter and contour I need? Thanks I am new to custom guns so I appreciate the info.

Unless you plan to carry it long distances, I would put a little
heavier barrel on it and open up the stock's barrel channel.

If I ever shoot out the barrel on my Mod 12 VLP, I'll be going
with a .243AI, just cuz.

I have the same rifle and it shoots very well with 87 grain VLD's and H4350. I might be interested in the B&C stock if you want to sell it, to get a new one for a varmint contour barrel.

I shoot a lot of .243 Win and when mine gets rebuilt it's going to be with a 243 AI 24" sporter contour twisted @ 1 in 8" to sling some 105s.

I shoot the 105 Barnes and the 105 Hornady from a stock Rem 700 24" ADL 1 in 9.125" right now and it's awesome. More twist can't be a bad thing with them long 6mm bullets.

Well, how is it shooting and how much better do you want it?? Is it shooting 1" or 3"....and how do your other rifles shoot compared to it?

I have shot 8 different bullets out of it ranging from 55-87, tried 3 different powders. Best groups have been around an inch. Seems like it will group 2 or 3 in a 1/2" and throw a couple to 1"-1.5" which is why I had it bedded but didn't fix it. I reload for my .223 and .308 and I have loads worked up for both of them that shoot under half moa consistently. I got this gun to use for long range varmints and predators which is why I want better than 1 moa groups.
