The new block will cover the slots in the barrel.
If you want dimples in the barrel, I would recommend installing the block and making sure it is set up with perfect alignment. Then test it to make sure it works.... Just because you have it installed perfectly, doesn't necessarily mean that the barrel was drilled perfectly!
Once you are certain it works correctly, remove the bock and carefully drill the dimples in the marks left by the set-screws.
