Taking a family trip to Hill city South Dakota the first full week in June, My son(12) and myself want to take a day and do some PD shooting(our first time) and need to be pointed in the right direction on who/where to contact for a shoot in the Hill city area. Is it possible to do a self guided shoot without paying a guide? I realize I'll have to shoot on private land due to public land dates but I won't have the time to door knock blind with a daughter(15)and wife. I know contacts ref this are secrets kept close but any help would be appreciated, I want my boy's first experience as well as myself's to be a good one. I have reasearched all the license requirements and the supplies needed to make a enjoyable shoot Thanks to this board it's just the locale is proving difficult.
Thanks

The closest pdogs to Hill City, SD are in Custer State park (public ground type rules and special license required), and the other is in Wind Cave National Park (what part of NO HUNTING ALLOWED do you need to have explained to you?).

Suggest that you go to Sniper's Hide and contact a member there named Curious 1 (or Curious1). He just got his license to guide on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and would probably be very happy to take care of this for you.

Let us know how the hunt goes.

You're sure a nice guy to point that out, the rest of us members here are proud to have a member like you to share your vast knowledge in such a gentleman like manner!

Not quite sure how to take this post from chris112? I thought I made it clear in my post that I am fully aware of the laws and rules governing PD shooting during the time frame I am there. Samspade I appreciate your post e-mail will be sent, Thank You sam

Upon reflection I could have worded it better BUT considering the number of tourists that I keep running into that want to know where to get hunting information for Wind Cave Park and Badlands National Park I still think that it should be pointed out that they are No Hunting Allowed. The last person that I heard of to get caught hunting in either got 2 years in the federal prison for shooting a coyote.

I hunted at rosebud Sioux tribe Indian reservation In Mission SD. The cost was 100$ for a self guided hunt, I was with 3 other hunters and I killed at my best count 800 prairie dogs in 4 days of shooting. If you call the reservation office (605)747 2206) they will be very helpful in letting you know how to arrange the hunt, and provide you with a list of outfitters that will for a extra 100$ will guide you, but if you manage to get to the reservation office you will see for yourself that you do not need a guide the dogs are everywhere you look, and the chief there will give you maps of where to go good luck Tony.

Hey Chris...is Buffalo Gap National Grasslands adjacent
to Badlands NP still legal for P-dogs? I've been gone a
few years but I'm going back for a hunt.

I recently read on another forum that Rosebud has reduced their license fee from 100 to 50. I'm guess that that is for their annual self guided license. 2 years ago about this time of year, I was interested in getting up a Pdog hunt on Rosebud. It was to be my first Pdog hunt. I beleive that was also the first year that they required you to have a guide on the reservation, except for the area they set aside for self guided hunts. As I recall the 100 bucks was for an annual. If you got a guide for the reservation in general, you could get a short term license, which was 30 dollars if memory serves me. ( I will admit I have CRS)

....see....I do have CRS. That thread was on this forum.lol
