plan on getting me a new leupold scope soon for my rem model seven 223 for groundhogs and coyotes.
being I don't want to rely on wearing glasses hunting Im looking for best reticle to fit my needs.
any one have either the leupold dot--the duplex--or how about the illuminated reticle, and how do you like.

thanks for input chris from missouri

Chris- I had the same rig a couple of years ago, stainless synthetic mod 7 .223 and put a leupold 2x7 shotgun scope on it. It's the one with heavy duplex, real easy to see even in low light. But like always I wasn't satisfied couldn't get use to the big bold aiming point I guess, so I sent it off to leupold and they installed a regular duplex for about $40.00, wish I had em back. My partner in crime uses a leupold 6.5x20 with a dot he likes it, I do not just need to try that one for yourself (he did go 37 coyotes straight without a miss with it)
Also the shotgun scope has a matte finish! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Chris I use a Leupold 6.5-20 Leupold DOT on my 22-250. The only problem I can see with this scope is the dot get's lost in the shadowy areas of brush and can't be seen very well in low light conditions. That is why it's on my 22-250 because I don't use it for coyote hunting. It's more for squirrel popping in bright day light.

I have the Leupold 4.5-14 standard duplex reticle mounted on my AR15 yote gun and it works very well even at night with the aid of flash light or spot light. And as I recall you are looking at the 4.5-14x40 correct? Great scope!

I have used illuminated reticles and I'm not convinced they help a great deal. You still need light to see an animal at night, if that is what you are refering to.
