Help with my RRA please.

Hi all. I bought a RRA Operator II a year or so ago and it shoots well. That said it is heavy! It has a 16 inch HBAR style barrel on it and that definitely adds to its weight. I would like to lighten it up. It has a mid length free float quad rail hand guard that I would like to replace with something slimmer and lighter as well as replace the bulky flip up sight gas block with a low profile block. Any suggestions on a lighter free float handguard? Carbon fiber maybe? Suggestions on a low profile gas block are also welcome. Also does anyone know how to remove my current hand guard ?

I have the same rifle and it is a little on the heavy side. I like mine really well cause it shoots awesome with my handloads.. I can't really tell you how to remove your hand guard cause I've never removed mine. I will say that the Midwest industries gen. 2 hand guards are nice and also the Sampson hand guards are nice also. Good luck with your project.. let me know how it eventually comes off and how things turn out as i might lighten my rifle in the future..

Midwest Industries SSK Keymod. 15 incher only weighs 9.9oz. 12 incher only weighs 8.5 oz and they look sharp.

What stock is on it? You might look at the Ace stocks if it doesnt already have one on since its a Rock River. That could help lighten the load to. Good luck.

If it were me I would drop the quad rail as you said. I have a 13 inch Diamond head that has an awesome profile. However other that carbon fiber the lightest ffr I know of is the troy alpha rail.
