HERTER'S WORLD FAMOUS PREDATOR CALL

Does anyone know what years these were made?

This call came from my Grandfather. It says it "imitates the rabbit death scream". It has a small wire to adjust the tone on the metal reed. It is made of walnut and some type of clear yellow plasticthat holds the reed. It is in the original tan box with brown lettering and a picture of a fox.

On the bottom of the box there is an advertisement for "Herter's VARI-CHOKE or VARI-CHOKE WITH RECOIL ELIMINATOR". "Standard Vari-Choke Installed $11.00". "Vari-Choke With Recoil Eliminator Installed $14.95".

Those chokes look just like the Poly-Chokes I have seen on some old shotguns.

With the information can anyone tell me about what year the call was made and what it may be worth? With the prices of the chokes I figure that it must be fairly old.

This is the address on the box: Herter's INC., Waseca, Minn., U.S.A.

Thanks for any information!

Wow. That call could be from quite a time span. They made that call with few variations or changes for a long time. I don't know exactly when but I know I had some of their calls back in the 1960's and my dad had some from before that in the 1950's I think.

I always like to see Herter's stuff. It brings back lots and lots of memories. I grew up in Waseca Minnesota and spent more time and money at Herters than I should have. It was the Cabelas of the times.

PS, anything Herter's is now a collector's item. Some folks are paying good money for those calls. I have one just like it.

Its hard to say. The Call Bible states its first production was 1954. There were three cone colors and your was the common one, and not as old as the other two. DOes it say on the box what type of predator call it is. Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 or does it have a letter number combo like C66?

Either way your in good shape your call could be worth $15 to $35 depending on the shape its in and wether the box, and instructions are complete. Well worth holding on too.

You can probably get a better answer from Jay Nistetter and he is a advertisor on this board (Rhino Calls)
