Hey Ohio hunters, legal question about night hunting

Ohio law states that we must have a white beam of light on continously while night hunting that can be seen from a 1/4 mile away.
What do you all use for this that won't spook intended target animals???
Thanks in advance,
Kenny.

I pretty much use a Coleman lantern along with my Sunburst for coon hunting but when calling fox or coyotes I just use the spotlight on my Sunburst

Persons hunting, trapping, or pursuing furbearing animals at night must carry a continuous white light visible for at least 1/4 mile. When two or more persons are hunting or trapping together for furbearing animals, only one light is required and may be carried by any member of the party. Persons hunting foxes or coyotes with a call from a stationary position may use a single beam light.

we cant hunt coyote here at nite in ky,

but if you cant use red or amber lenses, i heard that if you use the halo of the white lite they cant see it as much.

When i ask the game warden about that he told me the white light part is when going from stand to stand, when on stand you can use the red filterd light.

Very good info there, I may have to contact the local Warden's in the Counties that we hunt and check with them personaly to be sure.

Lots of guys are saying that Cree LED lights dont spook game and are using them to shoot coyotes.Check the night hunting section.

My understanding of it was that you have to keep like a pen light or something of that nature on while your calling too...My guess would be so you don't get shot at my some idiot sound shooting.

why would you turn your light off while calling anyway.. your just giving yourself away. they cant see behind the light and if you turn it off and they are approaching you just gave away your location and what you are. i never let anyone hunting with me run a light unless they are standing back to back with me and i never let anyone stand beside me when im running my light, always behind me.
bobeano is right though, i was always told it was while moving from stand locations in the dark in regards to the laws. ive used red and amber lens' and used just the light itself, all with good success . when i use the light without the lens though i have to halo them more and be sure not to put it in their eyes. with the red lens on my coon lights i turn my head on wide profile and it takes care of pinpointing my beam and doesnt seem to spook them. they will run right up into my lap generally.

Can you cite the specifice statute section of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) or Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) you are referencing...?

Both the ORC and OAC have hunting regulations...without the citation number this is just speculation and rumor...a light at night visible for 1/4 mile has been required in OH for many years.....
