I ordered a 425ftps crossbow, he said I would have to use mechanical heads the fixed ones would plane when going over 325ftps?? My friend has a 350fps crossbow, he says the G5 flys good in his.

That would be correct...

Google Broadhead Planing lots of good info there. But... Unfortunately not a lot of info for crossbows!

Given what I'm seeing there for compounds, with draw lengths in the 28 - 31 inch range, I'm guessing spine of the arrow is likely the single largest factor in this scenario all things being tuned properly, and I don't think you're going to find that issue in a crossbow bolt to enough extent to cause a problem. I wouldn't think the shaft long enough to create the problem.

The good thing about crossbows is that form doesn't affect any thing. You can use the cheap wal mart fixed blades and they will fly like darts. I have seen it first hand. They may only be able to be used a couple of times but they really did a great job on the deer my buddy shot!!!!

We've tried several conventional broadheads and have yet to find one that'll fly true, but haven't tried the G5. Every mechanical broadhead we've used flys like a dart. Have used several of the walmart brands and have had good luck on deer.

So you used a few regular broadheads and they flew bad? I might order a mechanical one, and try the Montecs when I get to WY, my friend uses them.
