Directed to you Colorado experts--I will be heading out to Colorado later this month for some prairie dog shooting. I understand I need a small game license to shoot them on public land. Do I also need to register for HIP as well?
Thanks for the responses. One more question, though--what if we do not buy our license until we get there, can we do the HIP registration on the spot? We will probably end up buying the 1-day license each day, for two or three days.

Steve, agree completely as that I believe a small game license is not required on private land. However, I'm always concerned that a newbee and over eager game warden may not know the law.
So I buy the license even though I'm on private land.
I know, its been my experience that not all game wardens know the basic regs down to the letter. I actually read them front to back (slow day) but like you I choose to cover my axx with a license and permission.
It goes along with the night hunting thing for coyotes. Don't recall the specific reg but on private land you are good to go 24 hours a day.
