Hog Feeder Lights

Do any of you guys have 'successful' experience with solar feeder lights on your feeders for use while hog hunting? How long will they shine during the night before the battery runs out?

That's a good question. I haven't seen many solar lights that are very bright, or if they are, they don't last long. Good idea though. How about just taking a walkabout lightforce, and get in the blind?? I think you could red light them, and kill a few.

It has been my contention, and I think I will finally try it this year, that those crappy landscaping lights should do just fine. Any kind of quality scope needs very little light to pick up a target at 100 yards or less.

I built one out of a .50cal ammo can, solar panel, landscape "up light", 2 12v feeder batteries, and a remote control for car/motorcycle accent lighting. I have less than $100.00 into it and it illuminates out to about 75 yards. I place the light down on the ground 10 yards away and when I hear the hogs at the feeder I hit the remote. Constant burn time is only about 40 minutes as I am using a 50w halogen bulb and not led's, so hence the remote and waiting in the dark until I hear them (not to mention you do not want to deep cycle the feeder batteries).

I will try to get some pics up of it.

I have found if you have a trail cam on the feeder taking as many pictures as possible the hogs become conditioned to the light. After they become conditioned I have used a Q-Beam 2 million candle spotlight to light them up, interestingly they just keep feeding.

I have seen feeder lights for sale, I think one of the guys at the Texas Boars site makes night lights for feeders.
