Hogs in Colorado.

I think that is a canned hunt place up by Colbran,CO The hunting area is about 80 acres and you hunt from an elevated stand over a feeding station.kind of like buying a hog from farmer Joe and shooting it in the fed lot.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it is. I guess if ya have money coming out your ears it would be a good way to get rid of a little of it.

Hmmm, wonder how it is that they're skirting these laws as written by CDOW?

K. Feral Hogs
1. Feral hogs are hereby declared to be detrimental to Colorado’s wildlife and habitat. Feral hogs may be seized, captured or destroyed by the Division or its authorized agents whenever and wherever found.
2. No license is required for a person to hunt or take feral hogs. However, commercial hunting or taking of feral hogs is prohibited. No person shall receive compensation or attempt to receive compensation from the hunting of feral hogs in Colorado. Feral hogs may be taken year-round in any number by any method allowed for the take of big game. In addition, feral hogs may be taken at night with the use of artificial light and night vision equipment.
3. No person shall release species or hybrids of species in the families Suidae or Tayassuidae in Colorado for the purpose of allowing them to run at large or otherwise facilitating the distribution or abundance of feral hogs in Colorado.

TR, nowhere in their ad does it say these are "feral" hogs. I would almost bet these are plain old domestic pigs turned out in a an enclosure. I'm thinking it's not much more than a very expensive "kill your own sausage, bacon and ham hunt".

Mr. Poppadopalis.

I passed through Elizabeth just recently. I saw two hogs walking right down the side of the road!

Doggin,

Do you really think somebody is going to pay $750. for a "Tame" Hog?

I am sure it is possible, the ad does NOT say Feral and i suppose you could be correct with assuming they are in an 80 acre pen.

It was a good observation on your part for sure.

I guess one could always respond to the ad and find out?

Who wants to go first??

Lean hogs are currently bringing 86 cent a pound, they're getting $750 for 200 lb. hogs and telling the yo-yos that are paying for them that they weigh 400 - 500 lbs.

The hog farm's making a killing, and doing nothing illegal, anyone goofy enough to pay for this hunt, is probably goofy enough to think it's a great hunt! Hog farmer's happy, hunter's happy, the butcher is happy... Only in America!!!

I have a friend who works for an airline and he trades "Buddy Passes" to hunt hogs and he asked me along on one of these hunts. They tell you they have 2 kinds of hogs, the eating kind and the looking kind you choose which one you shoot.

Let me guess?

They call you Dad and you give them an allowance??

I looked into a place in collbran a while back that had advertised hog hunts along with other exotics and elk. Shortly after, the owners got caught illegally transporting hogs into the state in a stock trailer. On top of the the hogs had some disease and the ranch was ordered to kill all of them. I thought I remembered hearing that the owners went bankrupt and had to sell. The name of this place was the Little Creek Ranch. Google search "Mesa county psuedorabies case" or "legally transporting hogs into Colorado" and you will find the articles.
