Holographic optics at night?

I've been using a regular scope on my 22wmr for night hunting and been tossing around the idea of switching things up a little. Does a holographic sight work at night in the dark? What about when using a red scan light? I had several instances last year where fox popped up so close and quick to me that I struggled to find them in the scope. I thought maybe a relflex/eotech/fastfire type would really help for that. I have never used one so looking for some wisdom from you!
My only other concern is the "dot" moa. I'd still like to reach out a hundred yards max without having the aim point cover the whole head. Maybe a offset mount next to the scope would be the way to go?????
Any and all input is welcome!

Holographic sights work great in the dark and wont interfere with a red scan light. The intensity of the dot will contrast considerably against the red light. Aimpoint makes some red dot sights with smaller moa dot sizes...2MOA may be the smallest and so it will be okay for shots to 100 at night, which is probably beyond a recommended distance for the 22wmr anyway.

The offset mount is a good alternative and will allow you to have more versatility for day/night use.

We can only use rimfire here at night. During daylight I bump up to .223 so not concerned with it being day/night versatile. It was bought as dedicated night gun.
I like your answer though cause I'd rather keep it simple and take the scope off completely.

All RED DOT sites can be used at night. Are you looking to use Night-Vision with it?

EoTech
Aimpoint
Vortex

Are all good choices.

Same here with the rimfire at night stuff...I prefer Aimpoint over EOTech because I can mount the sight lower on the gun, EOtech is great on an AR, but for me they are too heads up for traditional rifle/shotguns. Good Luck...Shultzy

Would love to use it with night vision!!.......but have the small issue of I don't see any night vision in the near future for me! So no unfortunately it doesn't have to be compatible with night vision. At this point in life that will remain just a dream for me.

+1, also the Aimpoint dot starts at the low end and gets brighter as you turn the knob. The EOtech starts bright when you turn it on, and can be turned down. My EOtech got my natural night vision a couple of time so I switched to the Aimpoint. Not that the EOtech is a bad scope, I prefer the Aimpoint for night stalking.

I would suggest looking into a Vortex Strikefire with a red AND green reticle option. Using the green reticle with your red spot light will make a difference. Also, the Strikefire comes with a night vision setting if you ever do decide to get a monocular to mount behind it. The Strikefire has full transferable lifetime warranty, and for the value that you are getting in the product it won't break the bank.

Thanks Tex I'll look into that one. I've always heard good stuff about their scopes. And seeing it's only a night gun I don't mind having to throw a little less money at it!

That Vortex sounds like a great deal for day time but a lot of people complain about the light transmission. Not so sure that would be a good option for me. But yea that is even cheaper than I expected... so for a day use optic it sounds pretty nice.

I sent an old bushnell scope in for repair and they sent me back a refurb 4-16x40 green/red illuminated cross hair. I stuck it on my 222rem to play with at night. Even though its a cheaper scope it has given me zero problems. I'm using a red 250 kill light on it with red cross hair on low works out pretty slick.
Plus last year when the coons started to tear up my garden I mounted a tasco accu dot on my smith 22a pistol with the kill light that worked really well to.

I like my eotech at night as long as I remember to turn it down as the sun goes down. Other wise its a bright red blur in the dark.
