LOL, I have taken a can of cat food with me....cant say it ever did anything except smell like....cat food /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have heard of guys leaving an open can of cat food after calling a stand and not having anything show. The theory being the critter shows up after the hunter leaves and finds a can of cat food. He then thinks that when he hears the call the next time there will be food there. I never tried it sounds like it could cost a few bucks. I like to use grape jelly for coons. And used to use cut up grounghog for fox well ripe of course.

When you say bait I think of a bait stand not a calling stand so I will put my two cents in on that matter. I like to use deer carcas and peices of meat and bone left over from the deer butcher I have even used hides as an effective bait. I like to freeze it into one foot by one foot blocks and set it out like that. Now some states do not allow meat of any kind... well I know of these two guys who use beneful dry dog food and beggin strips ( no lie I have seen them set up ) and it works. They take fox and coyotes on a regular basis setting the bait the same night they hunt.

Vanilla extract works great for attracting herbivores.....probably not coyote so much. I carry a bottle with me to the treestand for archery deer. When putting a baitpile out for the first time (say, on state land) the vanilla will draw the deer like a magnet.

I just saw a product in Sportsmans Guide called gut pile! I cant imagine what is in this plastic bag, but I can just think of all the problems of carrying around an oozing bag full of you know what in your vehicle. Other than the mess and smell I wouldnt think scent will bring anything.
