has anyone out there ever made their own lathe? i guess u could call mine "homemade"....i put a bolt into each side of a 30 inch piece of black maple.....then i put on side into a hole in the wall that i made to fit it perfect.then i put the other bolt into a drill that i put into the vice....it works good enough to get a nice round peice of wood to work with....no special shapes or anything...just cylinder shaped....works decent...was just wondering if anyone else had an idea for a homemade lathe....thanks derrick

You can use a 12" length of 1/4" dia steel rod chucked in your drill press and have a 'vertical' lathe. Folks use this set-up to turn pens. Plans were in Woodsmith magazine several years ago.

Disclaimer: I would advise referring to this plan prior to trying this method. Sorry I don't have the Issue #.
