so my neighbor wants me to trap him some chipmunks and squirrels right? i went out and bought one of those have-a-hart traps and after i got home i was like this thing was 29 bucks? so i build my own trap...it only took four hours because i first build a deadfall then realized i wanted them alive. that pretty much made me redo the whole thing including hunting for more branches in my neighbors yard. anyways here is the trap...

here is where the chipmunk will hopefuly trip it, i didnt think he would hit the stick off so i made kindoff a lever that would knock it off. the gate is to make them go in the way i want

I see how it works (I believe this called a "figure 4").

What are you doing with them?

keep em as pets, well my neighbor is. i think he wants a squirrel though, i would never keep any of em though i dont care for tree rats.

It is a figure 4 of the Piute (spelled wrong I think). It will probably work, though I would use a smaller diameter and shorter branch for the one attached to the business end of the cord. That should increase the speed of the trap and be more effective.

Not to sound like a party pooper and it may not be relative to your situation but some states frown on primitive traps and keeping wildlife as pets.

Good Luck!

You had better be pretty close by when they set the trap off as it won't take them long to eat a hole in that plastic! And how do you plan to get them out of the trap alive? I don't see any bottom on the trap either. I think they will enjoy your bait and escape either through the side of the trap or dig out from under it.
Good luck
