Hornady 30 gr V max or CCI 40 gr

I shot a coyote with my 22 MAG (we have to use rimfire at night here) at 34 yards and it was a great shot. I gave it another and seen it do the spin job and it went down. As I walked up to it it was crawling away. I used the CCI 40 grain game point JSP and wondering if the Hornady 30 gr v max would be better. I am thinking the v max may mushroom more evan though it is lighter. I don't know if the CCI went right through without mushrooming or what happend. I am afraid to go out at night now with it. I picked the 40 over the 30 because it has more energy. Your thoughts appreciated.

The new 17 winchester super mag will be out in June. It looks bad [beeep].

I would give you a link but it is locked down here at work. google it.

Those Hornady V Max are good for the job. If you can find those Remington that were loaded with what looks like the green tip Blitzking, they will do the job also. Had the same problem with the jacket hollow points.

It has been a long time ago but I have shot cci 22 mag 40 grain hollowpoints into water and they never even mushroomed.

I dont shoot 22mag but I do shoot vmax. they dont mushroom, they explode! Shedding all of their energy inside the body (deadly). If your hp's are passing threw then they are not shedding enough energy.

I think the 30gr will give you more velocity and will come apart inside. I have shot a lot of foxes with the 40gr and they have worked great for me, little to no pelt damage.
