hey all, just starting reloading, got my hornady lock n load press, cleaned up my hornady 308 match brass and preped my dies, lubed the expander with dry lube as instructed, lubed my case. now when i go to decap and expand the case the case runs about half way up and its so tough to finish it off and that it feels likes its about to break something, anybody have this issue? am i doin something wrong?

DeadNoise.....Do you have the decapping pin set correctly? Should be NO MORE then 3/16 protruding out the die. What case lube are you using ? I like One Shot case lube. Also, how did you set the die up? Raise the ram without a case but WITH the shellholder just so it touches the bottom of the die. UNSCREW the die 1/4 turn. Set the LOCK coller. You should be GTG....Hope this helps..OH YEAH, what dies are you using?

using hornady custom grade dies, series 1, 2 die set, full length. 308 win. yep set it up exactly like that, using hornady one shot case lube, and yes the decapping pin is set correctly, we actually have tried it without it even in there and still wont go....

the case only goes half way up the die and stops, it takes both hands to run it up and almost all my weight to get it back out, and these are hornady match brass fired once.

With that problem, you should take Jack up on the offer...

I had some .308 brass given to me that must have been shot from a machine gun (looser chambers) and ran into much the same problem...It took copious amount of RCBS lube to get them through the die the first time and even then a lot of pressure...

yes that would def be great to get some help, going to call hornady also this morning and see, i did alot of diggin and found another forum with a guy with the same problem and hornady ended up sending him a new die but he never posted back if that fixed the issue or not.

yes its drying completely, just got rcbs dies and the case goes in very nicely, put the same case back in hornady with same result, called hornady, i am mailing the dies back with some cases of mine and they are going to see whats going on with them and fix the issue.

This is interesting. I had the EXACT issue, only with the Hornady once fired .308 brass from their Superformance ammo - no other brass

My rifle is a Rem 700 SPS.

I had no other problems with Winchester or Remington brass, just the Hornady. Had to drill and tap a few cases out. Also using One Shot, letting it dry completely.

Left me baffled. I still have them but went out and purchased a set of RCBS and didn't have the issue any more with the Hornady brass.
