Hornady Heavy Magnum Coyote

I've killed several coyotes recently with those exact shells. Range varied between 25 and 40 yards. All of them took a 2nd round to make em stay down. But I've had to put a 2nd round in many coyotes with other shells too, including high density. Guess I'm a bad shot.

The price on those at SW with free shipping is GOOD. Get ya some before they are all gone. I did.

I ordered some but haven't had a chance to try them out.

It says on the box that they work best in Imp Cyl and Mod Chokes.

Were you using BB or 00 Buck? Just curious.

Wish they had some of the 00B, I would have liked to see how that patterned as well.

At $1.25/rd the BB are cheaper than a lot of 3" #4buck loads, and contain a lot more pellets!

After seeing this post I picked up a box of ten for 13.99 at the local, 40 miles one way gun shop, I just had to open one up to see what the innards looked like, 72 nickel plated lead shot, measured .179 with calipers, the shotcup and powder, thats it no filler no buffer no overshot card. Total weght of shot was 597.6 gr. shotcup weight was 66.0 gr. total weight of 663.6 gr. a touch over ounce and a half.
the powder charge weight was 34.5 gr. Pellet weight was 8.3 gr on average, here are a few pics

Shot from left to right is nickel plated BB, lead BBB, lead #4 buck

What chokes/gun combo are some of you guys using with this stuff??? I found Carlson's has a Dead Coyote choke on closeout on their website. I've ordered some shot, now I'm wondering if the choke would be a good investment or just stick with factory Improved Mod or Full.

You will need an IC or mod with these loads, if they pattern similar to the federal flight control wads that is.

I tried a box of these but in 00 buckshot and I couldn't get them to pattern at all out of my 870 supermag. I tried mod, imp cylinder, and even a tight turkey choke. From 25 yards I would get maybe 3-4 pellets in a 10 inch circle. Went back to 40 just to see what i would get and was lucky to get 1-2 pellets in the 10 inch circle. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up a box of BB ones to try soon.

You were either running too tight of a constriction or using a wad stripping choke.

I'm having problems pattering them myself.

The wad is suppose to be made different from other wads and that's suppose to be the reason for the Imp Cyl or Mod chokes.

I'm going to go back out there today and start over.

I have got to find a load that shoots BB's

I was using standard Remington chokes for the modified and improved cylinder chokes which Hornady recommends. I just tried that turkey choke to see if I could get anything different out of it. But they all seemed to pattern the same.
