Chapped Lips

on page 7 of feb issue of HANDLOADER mag HORNADY has an ad which includes a visual of their new sonic cleaner...looks sorta like the unit i purchased via the article in 6mmBR.com in 2008....HORNADY suggested price is $130...cleaning solution is $25/qt...

Thats not cheap, most guys buy the harbor freight model. You would have
to compare power outputs to really be fair.
As far as cleaning solution I use this: In a pint jar:

2-3 tablespoons of a dish soap with ammonium laurel sulfate in it.
1 tablespoon of lemishine (walmart)
Half water/ half vinegar
4 drops of iodine

The more heat the better they work. And the soap would be better substituted
with something with a higher concentration of the surfactant in it, but I am
cheap and this works. Bought my machine used off of ebay for 100.00 15 years ago. Looks like it came from a jeweler or dentist maybe. Hope this helps some
body out there.

bigwheeler....it might help me...i followed instructions to a "t" on 6mmBR article -even same sonic unit- and results were so-so...brass was clean but appearance was splotchy...article didn't emphasize heat like every other sonic article i've read...i just tucked project on a shelf & went back to vibratory....where do ya find this "ammonium laurel sulfate"?...what's its purpose in life normally?

It's a surfactant, they are chemicals that release mechanical bonds between
things. It is found in most soaps and is some nasty stuff. Many attribute a lot
of health problems to them. Any product that is used on your body it has
to be listed, but products like dish soap not necessarily (who would ever put
their hands in dish soap right.) You might want to do a little reading on them
and look at what your are using for body soap and shampoos.

It says up to 200 .223. Mine will hold maybe 100 but it will only clean about
25 at a time. You have to "tune" the load in these things to allow the vibrations
to keep everything moving. Brass is dense and soft so it really absorbs energy.
Hornady makes pretty good products in general, I would expect this one is too.
But I will wait until the verdict is in before buying.
