Hornady Reloading Equipment

What do you guys think of Hornady reloading equipment.
I am going to start reloading again and need to buy everything I need and thought of Hornady.

I'm using their dies and powder measure, love the seater die with the sliding sleave. There micrometer adjustable powder measure is as good as my Redding. Haven't used one of their new presses but I did use a 007 for a while, it was equal to my RCBS at the time.

I think they make quality stuff, I am not to hot on their dies though, that zip spindle thing reminds me of someone trying to reinvent the wheel, and failing miserably. I guess the seater dies are ok, its a fairly good idea with smaller calibers so your fingers dont get crunched. That alone wont make me choose them over Reddings though.

Haven't try any of their newer dies with the zip spindle thing but the older ones really suct. You couldn't tighten the jam nut tight enough to keep the expander/punch assembly in one place.
Their presses and other stuff has always worked. I have an old Pacific (now Hornady) shotgun shell press that loaded several truckloads of ammo for me. got it in 1973.

I dont like thier dies, the seater I have leaves a tiny but noticeable ring on the bullet, and I have done everything I can think of to prevent it, but it is always there. RCBS is what i have been useing since I started and have never had a problem. My press is is a single station Forster and I love it, its single stage, but it does it all, you should check it out.

Dies are Dies

Buy the die that does what you want and fits into you budget

IMO

I buy what ever is on the shelf at the time

Lee RCBS hornady

If I had a choice they would all be Hornady

Just my .02

I have a Hornady L-N-L powder measure and I'd rather have another Lee PPM. The Lee handles Varget very well and the Hornady binds up, so it's relagated to Win 748 powder. I have a Hornady Custom .223 seater die and it works great.

My favorite dies are the Lee collet dies and Forster bullet seater dies.

call me a cheap azz but I like Lee stuff. I have their turret press kit and all my dies but one are Lee. Love those crimp dies. my reloads go bang every time, seem to kill everything they hit, and the shoot into tight little groups. what more can you ask for?
I, also, like savage rifles

If you want the best, get a Co-Ax and Forster dies..
If Forster doesn't make a die in the caliber I need my next choice is Redding...

Oh yea,,,,,,, I'm pretty sure you guys have poor old Idaho Bob rolling over in his grave with the Lee bashing,,, although I totally agree with ya and told Bob that several times when he was alive...

I don't own any Forster or Redding dies, just RCBS, Hornady, and Lee. The "newer" Hornady dies are my favorite of the three. The zip spindle mentioned above has never been an issue with me.Honestly, I don't see how it could. You just tighten the nut and it doesn't "zip" anymore.

The seating die centers your bullet for you so you don't have to hang onto it all the way up into the die. I've seen other dies that have this feature too, it's not just exclusive to Hornady, but they're probably pricier.

The last RCBS dies I bought, the set screw on the locking collar wouldn't tighten and stripped out the first time I set up the die. I'm sure they're customer service would take care of this for me, as they're one of the best in that department, I just haven't made the call.

i like ther stuff i have more rcbs though and i will have to admite i dont like the lock an load thing.. that is unless you can get the older stly large bolt that gos in side of it instead of the lock an load set up.. for wild cating cases i think its just wount take the force as having all of them threads when your trying to form brass..especialy when your starting a die 4-7 threads in the press and forcing the brass to swage down to some thing different... but again if that can be fixed i dont see a problem with ther items i never owned one of ther presses though... i have had rcbs lyman an lee.. out of the tree rcbs hands down every time...

Have the Hornady LNL AP and I like it. The bushings for the LNL can be a pain, but I only use it for pistol and 223. I use my Rockchucker for all large rifle. As far as their dies go, No problems and I have 3 or 4 sets. The only reason I have more RCBS is that they are more likely to be found used. I rarely see a used set of Hornadys... That must tell you something. Same with Redding and Forster. Not that I don't like my RCBS. Great customer service when needed!
