Hornady V-Max VS Nosler BT

Can't make up my mind between the two brands. It’s going to be shot in a Rem 700 26'' varmint gun. Also only going to be shooting at gophers and PD's.

I'm a die hard Hornady fan. I like them because they shoot well. But the truth is, you should shoot whish ever one shoot's best in your rifle.Gopher's and PD's aren't going to know the difference!

I would pick a box of both up and see what your rifle prefers. It will have a preference for one or the other. vmax are a little more explosive based on my experience then btips.

Both are great hunting bullets.
I like Vmax over NoslerBT for PD, it provide lot more excitment. But I like Nosler better for coyote, I also find the Nosler beign more accurate when I push them at ultra higher velocity, given they are near the same weight and cal. I don't know that is true for every caliber, at least they are with .224, 243 and .257 .

Ok I think I will try the V-max and see how that works. Now my next question is the moly coating worth it or is there something else I should use or just go with a reg non-coated??

Ive tried the Moly coated v-max's but cant really see any difference. I dont think they are worth it for the money. There is no substitution for keeping a clean bore, and it seemed to me that it was harder to clean after using the moly coated ones. I also note that if you use the buttstock cartridge holders the moly tends to wear off after some time. My .02......

Definately the V-max BTW. Good bullet for both PD's, and yotes. Quarter size entrance and normally dont exit, dispatches yotes and PD's with athority.

I did a few searches and most guys say the moly is not worth it. Just curious has anyone tried the Barnes Granader's yet???

I have a 700 BDL I purchased around 1980 and I cannot get my gun to shoot the V max. I recently switched scopes and put a 3-9 Leupold on the 22-250. A 6-20 was too much for the thick Pocono woods where I hunt. I didn't have enough adjustment to zero the 3-9 Leupold so I had to shim. I couldn't get the bases off so I tried a .005 shim under the front ring. I know this isn't the best situation, but I didn't want to take a chance on screws stuck in the receiver and I wanted to use the gun. There was so many things that could have been problems. I purchased a cheap Bushnell just to eliminate the scope. I had the action bedded and free-floated the barrel. This time I took some Sierra 55 Gr Blitz with 35 gr of 4064 Same Pwd charge as V max.I seated the tips out to .040 off the rifling. The Sierra's shot a 5 shot group about 3/4 of an inch. The V max looked like buckshot and this is no exageration! A local gunsmith told me some of the older chambered rifles don't like the slender pointed tips. I can tell you mine don't. This has been going on for months with my rifle, No more Hornady for me! What a pain, lots of wondering, Sleepless nights, Finally the nightmares over!!!

Not a big Hornady fan here. Sierra and Nosler, with the Nosler BT winning out as my favorite bullet all-around.

It may have to do with the fact that I've been shooting BTs since looong before Hornady had the Vmax.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that I've never been able to get the Vmax to shoot as well as the BT....dunno

The Hornadys are well-regarded and if they shoot good, shoot em'. You'll save yourself a buck or three as well.
