Hound Hunters Hello

I just ran into this board and joined. I hope you have room around the fire for a redneck from extreme rural Arizona. I run a few hounds, catch a few bears and get a kick out of my family.

I like the format of this board very well. Very few things in the outdoors come close to walking into a bear or lion tree, hounds slobbering and the critter looking down. I love it. How about a coyote burning into the scope as he anticipates a free meal, lead soup for you. That is cool to.

Welcome aboard Ed, nice to meet you. What type of hounds do you run? Nice website. I am going to order your lion video for myself for Christmas!! I have your western bear hunt video and really enjoyed it. I am fairly new to hounds. I have been hunting since I was 14, but waited to get into hound till I retired from the Air Force last year. I have three blueticks and a redbone and a plott on the way in Dec. My redbone is from Tom Solberg's T-Top Redbone Kennel out of Wis. She's a real firecracker at 8 months old. All of my hounds are young and in-experienced. I am hoping to get to run lions in Idaho this winter, but bears for sure next spring. Any way welcome again and I look forward to getting your advice from time to time. Fred

Thanks. I have black and tans, a bluetick and a redtick. I did quite well the 1st of the month but last week I ran deer one day and a coyote another. I think you will really like lion hunting. It is cold but what can compare to the thrill of seeing a lion treed? Good luck, I'll be in Utah next spring for bear and when the snow flies I'll be making a trip for lion this winter. A buddy and I catch and film them mostly. You'll love the lion if you liked the bear. It is 120 minutes and has some hair raising stuff like dogs in trees, lions on rocks and one scene where my buddy crawls into a cave to recover his 3 dogs baying a lion. Still makes me pucker when I watch it.

I know I saw the preview on the bear film, no offense but that guy is CRAZY!!!! LOL Awesome looking footage. Talk to you later.

Welcome to the board Ed. My dad and I used to run hounds when I was growing up, before those tree-hugging liberals in Portland banned bear and cougar hunting with hounds for the rest of the state.
I have seen a few crazy things myself, but I will say nothing is more exciting than walking to a "coon" tree on a warm January night around 1 a.m., having the dogs crawl into a hollow log, grab the "coon," and come back out only to poke your own nose and flashlight inside and come nose-to-nose with 150 lbs of pi$$ed-off black bear. Although I'm not sure if I would have rather come nose-to-nose with an old 20lb boar coon. At least the bear let me gather the dogs and head for the truck before it came out of the hole.
Damn, I miss the old days!!!!!!

I really love to hunt with dogs. Right now the bears are about to dive under so I'm gearing up to call some coyotes and wait for the snow to lion and bobcat hunt. It's good to hear so many voices out there who know what a bawling hound is all about. Thanks
