How about the 6.5mm Remington Mag?

Wolfer-
It seems to be the general concensus that the .257 Roberts will give me feeding problems, and I'd have to seat the bullets pretty deep in a short action. I've always wanted one, and I may buy a production .257 Rob. soon anyway.

Here's a link to the other topic:.257 Roberts Thread

So, I've found brass and dies for the .250 Savage and the .260 Rem. on Midway and I'm still mulling it over...

If I were you I would get A loading manual that has SAAMI spec drawings in it and compare the rounds myself. Then consult my gunsmith who is going to do the rebarrel and chamber. The .257 Boberts will work in any action a 308 will work in. Either of the cartridges .250 sav or 260Rem should also serve you well. I'm just saying sometimes it's better to do your own reserch then put too much faith in opinions. IMHI /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm pretty sure I can sort the b.s. opinions from the useful ones.

If you don't like people asking for and giving opinions you're in the wrong place. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ihave done that coversion on a top tang ruger it works with a little smothing of feed rials and ramp inlarge bolt face 257 ai would probaly work to with same smothing picking up some cartridges and sticking into the magazine will tell about bullet depth hope this helps

I have a 6.5-284, built on a Rem 700 VSL in 22-250. I load 123g through 140g bullets, and even though its a short action I have had no problem extracting unfired ammo. I am not concerned about the barrel life as these concerns are about BR shooters in competition. I keep my loads under 3000 fps, where it is very accurate. I use a Kreiger heavy 1:8 ss barrel. This is not a stalking rifle because of its weight, be a great Antelope set up for long range.

YEAH, talk about ahead of it's time..and we thought the Short Mags were a creation of the late 90's and early O's..heck "BIG GREEN" introduced this guy more than 40 years ago!! BUT forwhat ever reason, America's hate of the letter's MM, except when there's a 7 infront of it, claimed this one and it's big brother the 350RM..either is more than enough for just about anything you'd care to shoot with one..they've been chambered in lots of models and manufacturers over the years but have just never made it with the general public..too bad..it's a great little short action big game round..

Have you considered the 6.5 grendel? Suppose to be a great long range cartridge and fairly straight forward to reload for. Just another option maybe?
