How are Bell & carlson stocks compared to HS Precision

they are very close to the same if you are talking about the medalist series with the bedding block. Many or your factory remington stocks are in fact B&C and not HS. The way to tell is to take the barreled action out,...and look at the beginning of the barrel channel in front of the lug recess. If the stamp in the channel is circle, it is an HS Precision,..if it is an Oval,..it is a B&C. Remington contracts with both companies to keep up with production.

With the Remington factory stock , i don't believe you will be able to tell the difference in field use between the HS and BC. They are about the same.

thanks
I bought the gun as a vls in 204 ruger, but sold the barrel and laminated stock, and i am getting a shilen barrel put on it. I already have a remington 700 vs with the hs stock and love it

There is no comparison in my opinion/experience. They may look alike but anyone who has handled HS stocks for years can tell the difference as soon as they hold one. I had a Rem VSSF a few years back that came from the factory with a BC stock. It looked like the HS but when I took it out of the box could not figure out what was wrong with it. Took it apart and found it was not an HS. Sent it back to Rem and they replaced it. This is when I found out they sub'ed these stocks sometimes. I would get the HS.

I agree totally with SteveM and RagnCajn....

They definitely do feel different. Different enough for me that I'll gladly spend the extra money for the H-S stock.

I have a few of both. I've not had a bad one in either. I kinda like the BC better. Something about it just feels more solid to me. I like the checkering too! Watch which one you buy some of the medalist are piller bedded only for the same price as a bedding block. All said H-S most of the time has somewhat better fit. Denny
