How big

This is strictly second hand information. Of the cats I have treed with dogs and/or called in, I have never killed one. The largest I have ever seen was a full body mount of a cat taken in Nevada, some 25 - 30 years ago. It supposedly weighed right at 200 pounds; and I will have to say, it looked every bit of that. That was one big cougar!

Average size for Southern mountain lions (like in AZ & NM) is 100 pounds for mature females and 130 pounds for mature males. Lions look big as all outdoors and fight like banshee's which makes them appear bigger that they really are. Northern lions are slightly bigger. Reading Del Camerons book he gives some weights and they run 10 pounds heavier it looks like.

If you want to see some photos or video, e-mail me and I'll hook you up.

I live in Southeast Idaho and have been hunting with hounds for big game about 11 years. I have hunted in a lot of different states for cat and bear and just love to see different animals in different areas to compare. I have caught 4 cats in the last 2 years that weigh between 175 and 195# I am trying like heck to break the 200 mark but haven't done it yet. These have been Idaho cats. Other areas I have not hunted near enough to guess on the cats.

Yea he scored just over 15 1/4. Nice cat but not what I though he would go but his body made up for it. I was back in a ways and what a pig to get out...
