I like to just set the main travel ways. Cow trails coming down to stock damns, trails along fence lines, power line roads, any where next to a creek or river, where fence lines come together at an intersection. Before I started trapping I called a lot of coyotes and used that to my advantage when I started trapping the same areas I used to call. Where I had called coyotes in and where they came from, what trail they were on, etc.
When I find these spots I would put 3 or 4 sets in on a 1 mile loop, then head down the road a ways and do the same thing. This year I am going to set 2 traps at every location (within a few yards of each other) and then head down the road. I saw a lot of sign where other coyotes would come visit the one caught so hopefully start picking up the doubles more often this way.
