How do you fade a pair of BDU's? (w/ update)

I've washed and bleached these things dozens of times and they just won't fade very much. The colors changed a bit but I'm looking to lighten the colors considerably.

They wouldn't take me Mike. It's funny how quick a recruiter will change his attitude when you tell him you've got asthma. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Besides that, I'm trying to fade some BDU's, not the DCU's.

give them to my wife... she can ruin just about anything when it comes to laundry... LOL

Of course this action would need to be covert. If she knew that the items were desired to be faded, she would somehow make them darker. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Have you tried a very weak bleach mixture? Try mixing 1/8 cup of bleach into 1 cup of water, then mix in with the load as it is agitating.

Dangit Encore! I can't tell you how many times you beat me to a punchline. All because you get to work before me. You need to start sleeping in. And I must admit that it's a little scary how much we think alike.. hehe..

Well, here's the results of my experiments. A little Clorox performance data if you will...

The text turned out a little smaller than I anticipated. Notice in the BDU pant leg on the right, you can barely see the black in the pattern. That was soaked for 2 days in 100% bleach.

Here's a shot of the new MARPAT Desert camo pattern that will be issued to the Marines soon. The MARPAT Woodland colors are already in use. This was a laundry bag that I picked up at the army surplus for $10. I un-stitched it and it came out to 3.5ft x 5ft. I'm planning on using it as a kind of blind to help minimize visible movement when I take my girls out calling. (6 & 4yrs old)

So, there you go, just wash them in bleach about 12-15 times and they'll fade nicely.

Never had to wash mine in bleach to fade them. Washing them in hot water and dry them on the hot cycle seems to turn them into cook whites pretty well.
