How do you sling your AR?

I'd like to be able to remove it when not hunting but I haven't found anything that will work yet. I can find attachments for the fore end but not the butt stock. I use a MagPul stock on the rear and its for a sling but not a swivel. I may just have to carry it. That's what one of my friends says he does with his too.

I have thought about getting some 550 para cord and weaving a sling for my carbine. It does have the hole in the stock for a quick release adapter. I have had a loop of paracord on the buttstock and used that with a regular sling. Mlok sling stud adapter on the hand guard.

Change the stock to one that allows swivels. I like the quick detach push button swivels and a front attatchment that allows you to click into several different angles. BCM furniture and Vickers tactical sling, easy peasy.

I can get the push button type for the front. I hate to change my butt stock, I just bought it. LOL! Maybe I can southern engineer something for the rear.

Does the buttstock have a fixed sling swivel on it? If so, get an M1 Garand . They have a swivel w/spring metal clip that slips over the swivel. I use that sling on my Mforgery. Works great; I usually carry the rifle muzzle down on left shoulder.

No the MagPul just has a slot where the sling goes through. I could use a single point but hate my muzzle pointing down. I might be able to add a push button style on the butt stock with a little ingenuity.

PB M-lock on the handguard and Magpul built-in PB on the stock, two inexpensive slings and a safety loop that drops down over the muzzle.

Now my hands are free, for the bike of ski poles. I wear a fanny pack turned to the front for my gear.

The Garand sling could do all of the above, Bill. You could use a regular swivel on front by hooking the spring clip, then disconnect front when you want to remove the sling, or you could eliminate the spring clip and use detachable swivel of your choice. You can then thread the other end through slot in your stock and secure with the "clamp" provided with the sling. Length of sling is adjustable w/buckle on clip end of sling. It also can be set up for carrying in the field, preset to provide a "hasty sling" for fast presentation (see pictures below).

As stated before, I carry muzzle down on left shoulder (right hand shooter), a habit acquired years ago when issued an M1 carbine. Didn't work well for me with the Garand @ 5'8" height, the Garand was a bit long to carry muzzle down. Carry w/left hand on forend.

It just occurred to me that the photos are mirror images as taken in "selfie mode". Rifle is actually on my LEFT shoulder.

Lift rifle up w/left hand as you twist counter clockwise while pulling butt to shoulder w/right hand, all the while keeping left elbow in loop between sling and stock.

Top picture shows the normal setup for the Garand and the loop can be placed around the left arm near shoulder for target shooting (prone or sitting) when time permits (complete instructions here)

Where’s your scanner, remote, etc??
I keep mine across my chest but basically sorta under my left arm, but not far enough it hits my caller over my left shoulder. Scanner and remote are around my neck and other rifle is over my right shoulder. I carry the trigger sticks tripod in my left hand so I can scan with my right. My 10yr old carries his own tripod, lol. Hunting by myself is much easier, lol!!!

I have the caller and remote in the backpack and the scanner in my coat pocket until we are making our set. Then once my gun is on the tripod I put the scanner and call remote both around my neck with lanyards. If I walk out with the scanner around my neck, the front sling position doesn’t work. My dad and brother usually spin theirs around to their back with the barrel up using the same 2 point strap. If I’m stalking for deer or anything else I like it in the front, my hand can rest on the grip and I can swing it up to shooting position quickly.
