How far away do you place your FoxPro?

There are probably lots of opinions on this question, but as a general rule, how far from your position do you place your e-caller?

If I am in the minority, this may explain why I am only being successful 1/3 of the time. I place mine upwind from my stand out approximately 20 to 25 yards and always use my Mojo Critter. My reasoning may be flawed, but I just hate to expose myself to a possible target by walking out too far from my hidden position.

Your opinions are more than welcome.

I usually run mine out to around 40 yards. I never use it over 60 yards or under 25. Since most of the property that I'm hunting on is comprised of smaller fields and logging roads (Central Georgia), 40 yards seems to be fine for me. However, as in all things "yote", it all depends on the situation and set up.

I set mine upwind or crosswind between 30-40 yards myself. Here in my area I would take 1/3 of the time seeing coyotes.

I always set mine right in front of me ( when calling solo) regardless of wind direction and usually place it about 30 yrds out . In big open country ill set it out 40 to 50 yrds but ALWAYS set it where i can see it and never close to a low spot .

I don't think i've ever had a set distance. It depends on terrain, condintions and how many shooters are out with me. If you are seein dogs a 3rd of the time maybe we should ask what you are doing thats pretty consistent.

I let the terrain 10% and wind 90% dictate where I set mine.

Mine will only work out to about 60 YDS with new Batteries in the remote and the caller.

I aint a fan of there remote by a long shot.

I live in the grasslands. Hard to elevate the call sometimes when the best thing I have is a yucca. Also, a lot of times I like to place the call down on the flat while I sit up on the rim. Those are the times when I particularly need the remote and the remote particularly doesn't like to work.

I have been thinking about JB Weld-ing a nut on the bottom of the call so that I can use a stick in the ground monopod, but that'll be just one more piece of equipment to carry.

Here's a typical setup from last year. I was on the slope, my NX3 (non-remote) was playing merrily away. Coyote came from around the rim's base and I got him. Those yuccas just don't support the weight of the FP very well.

very nice picture
my mono pod top unscrews and my spitfire has a camera nut on the bottom and that is what I use in the fields with no trees.
I tested it in the parking lot at work today and got 150yds before I ran out of room(with me standing).
at work today I called in about 24 crows in a group and 3 welfare rejects with the distressed yote pup. they was looking for there mutt smash on the road.

I set mine out 50+ pretty regularly. Spitfire and I set it on a mini tripod to get it up off the ground....or hang if from a limb if available. Up off the ground lets the sound travel further.

I don't care much for shotguns...it's all 223 for the daytime and 22 WMR for night time for me.

Like most fellas here, terrain and wind dictates most of the setup. On average, most times I am 30 to 40 yards. Always try to elevate my call. most areas I hunt have sage so I will just choose a branch that works. If I am in the woods or meadows I usually just set my caller on top of the foxpro bag giving it about a 1 foot elevation. Elevation seems to really help with the remote distance.

WOW!!! i never set mine out of shotgun range. i can see a lot of problems coming from being so far from the call but i guess if it works....... i just see it impossible to get a shot on a hard charger.

Here in ohio most yotes will try to circle downwind of the caller at around the 30-40 yard range, so I like to set my foxpro at least 30 yards away if not 40 if I can.

I get some of mine coming between me and the call, therefore I like to give them enough room to do so so. A few more shots (the one above, for instance) were shot as they approached from the side. Setting the call out a little gives me a broadside shot instead of an angling-in one.
