How far away for caller and decoy?

Pooked around a bit and didn't find much in this area. Maybe on the wrong forum?? But anyway, how far away do you guys put your decoy and caller? I may be putting mine too close and my remote will put it out there a good 75-100 yards

It pretty much depends on you setup and the terrain you're setting up in. If I am calling in thicker brush the call will be closer due to visibility, and if it is more wide open area I will set it out farther. Just remember that the farther you set it out, it will sound like it isn't playing that loud to you. I have seen a couple of my buddies actually spook coyotes close by because they set the call up out about 80 yards and then cranked it up to it sounded good to them. It was actually blasting extremely loud when you got up closer to it. You also need to remember when you have to walk out farther to set the call up you are exposing your self longer to the view of any predators.

I like a certain set up myself. That Ideal Set up is a big field with a Wood line. The Wind is blowing from the Field into the Woods. I set my Caller out in the Field right at 200 yds. I then Walk cross wind back to the Woods at least a 100 yds off center of the Caller. The Coyotes from the Field or the Woods will try and come in Down wind of the Caller and I am sitting on the Wood line to keep them from having to run so far.

40 - 60 yds is my norm.. I like Coyotes in the 100 yd range when I shoot. Visibility as well will help you determine the distance also. Id guess however if you like longer shots, you could set the call at the furthest distance that the remote could control. As otheres stated, set it up to your advantage.. not the Coyotes. JMO

Sometimes as close as 20 yards, other times 50 or so. Out here the snow can be deep at times and you move too much or get sweaty and tired hiking any additional yardage. If you get the decoy/call out of the line of sight and sit still and camo decently, their focus will be away from you and that is all you need. It is hard to see a coyote in the brush also, so getting them close is helpful.

I thought this is a great article to base your set up and camo choices on. There is another vision article out there which I can't seem to google on. It too is a good read.

I really don't have anything set in stone with regards to placing the caller. Usually don't know where I'm going to put it until about 2.3 seconds before I actually do place it.

But depending on the terrain and conditions, I place mine anywhere from right at my feet to as far away as 100 yards or even a bit more at times.

Just seems to all kinda fall into place at the time.

I suppose it depends on the terrain, but I'm suprised to see someone sitting a decoy more than 50 yards away from the caller. However, the "caller" was identified as a person with hand calls or an electronic caller.

I use hand calls and usually set my motion decoy upwind and/or at a crosswind to my calling position...at about 25 to 30 yards. I don't want the coyotes to pin point my calling location, by the sound of the call and not associate it with the decoy.

Good hunting, Bowhunter57

Who said that? I didn't read where anybody said that.
