How hard to find hunting. Land in Minnesota

Ok guys still another Minnesota question...I am planning on moving there in the near future around Rochester area. Is it hard to find places to hunt or are landowners easy to get along with? Around here 20 yrs and longer ago it was real easy but now with all the outfitters it is very difficult to find hunting land unless u own it. I am willing to buy some land but would she wants to live within 15 minutes of the city and not much hunting land for the money available that close.. I am willing to drive 1- 1.5 hours to hunt

Since it's South of Minnie there most likely won't be a ton of public land. I'd do what you can to develop contacts. Due East near Black River Falls there is a lot of public land available in WI, maybe closer. WI regs & fees aren't hard to deal with.

I'd start with one of those Gazetteer type maps then fine tune with a plat book. The biggie most places is deer season, after & before that it's easier. I'd be researching a trip to a SD dogtown too.

That will show you ALL the public land around. The RJD Memorial Hardwood state forest is over a million acres and I know that state forests are usually open to the public but this one is full of farms and I dont know the rules of hunting all the land. I have been down there thinking I was hiking through a state forest and it turned out to be private land some how.

The Whitewater WMA is 21,000 acres but the terrain is tough, the hills are steep and to get to where others dont show up regularly you will have to hike up and down these hills.

I have never had public areas to hunt before. I'd love to find private so I could do improvements like food plots permanent stands and such

Having your own spot would be great. This area is a great spot in MN to have some land but I would not rule out looking in some land in western WI.

Right on the other side of the Mississippi is Buffalo co. the number one Boone and Crocket county in the country. I have hunted just north of Buffalo co. if you are white tail hunter it is unbelievable. Grouse hunting is great and turkey hunting is good too. Last year was my first time out there and in one archery season I easily saw more inches worth of antlers than I have hunting MN for 15 years.

Thanks
I can drive and am willing to drive a hour to hour and half from my home . I love to piddle cut brush play with my tractor lol

Not easy to find GOOD land but it is possible. Deer hunting is the hardest to get permission for. If you get moved this way shoot me a PM, I work in Rochester.
