AS far as how long to wait before going into another call, if you are talking electronic call, I wait about a minute or so then call with another. I don't call solid with electronic call. I turn the call on for about 1 minute then turn it off and wait about 5 minutes before calling again, watching for any movement. If there is a coyote in the area and he hears the call believe it or not he already has the sound pegged to where it is coming from. Just start off low and work high. Hand calls I do the same. Call short then wait then call again. Hope this helps. Everyone on here has a different way of calling so I am sure you will hear other theories.
I'm with Jack...I would also say to make it random. Don't get too caught up in the time that the caller runs, literally play it by ear. If it sounds good, good echo, let it run. Think of it from a predators point of view. Most of my predators come in under 5 minutes, but I still will run my stand out. Most of the time any call sequence will get the job done. Look for sign of other animals on the way in, and use those calls.
