How long will a fox be call shy?

If I am calling in a fox and either miss or get winded. How long will that fox be call shy? And will it be call shy just to that sound or all calling sounds?

yup, I've seen some pretty dumb foxes. I bet he'd come to a differnet sound a week later, maybe set up in a differnet spot and I bet he will come in.

Ok thanks! I just started about a month ago and have called in 12 red foxes to about 25 yards. I missed one and I was winded by one. I have called two weeks later at the same spots and couldn't get them back in. Called wither several different calls. So that is why I asked the question. I'll keep at it! Thanks!

on this topic are you talking about red fox??? i went out the last friday when the moon was almost full with my prairie blaster and used the sequence titmouse tantrum, and nothing.... so i continued to glass and after about 45min of sitting i finally spotted one but it hardly acknowledged the call, he would look then trott around lay down, and repeat until he finally just trotted over the hill, i would of shot @ him if he wasn't skylined, and i'm in an area with a few reds the only way i can get them is by waiting or by stalking slowly and getting lucky, i even tried the red fox rally on my foxpro and didn't seem to even look.

I had the same thing happen! I had 2 chances at a red last full moon but both times he stopped he was skylined!! And I tried calling a fox that I saw bedded down once and all he did was lift his heat and look then go back to his nap... And Justin that awesome you have called in 12 already! You must have found a good spot!!

If you have given them a rest for a week or so try a different set up in the same area with a different sound. That asummes they're not getting other pressure. Good luck !!

If you're getting them into 25 yards you're doing something right. Fox seem to have a short memory if nothing bad happened to them, maybe just scared for a bit. a lot of times you can call them right back, same spot, same sound, after a 15 or 20 minute wait. I have before. Sounds like you're having fun!

I've called in 34 grey foxes since November. In my area, they usually come in within 5-10 min of calling, often as a pair about a minute apart. Some of them get away because of the terrain I hunt, but NOT ONE has ever been called back once they leave like I keep hearing about. But we can often go back a week or two later and call them in, they just don't come as close as they did the first time.

Well many good spots. I have hunted several counties and same results. 1 Fox for every 7 Stands. I do know from research and personal experience that if they are sleeping or all ready playing with a mouse or other prey they will not give you a second glance. My first fox called in was mousing. I called for an hour. He finally caught and ate the mouse then came right in on a dead run.

Yep that one ignoring me was taking a nap.. Are you calling on the edges of towns, around lakes, or near farms because I never see fox any were else I guess theres to many coyotes..

I am calling where there are trees and cattials. I will call on farmland if there are trees on the edges of the land.
