Evidently, they subscribed to the if some is good, more is better mantra.

Perfect for a front stuffer though.....:)

Sad part is, that's my new POF rifle that I just got back from having the barrel replaced.
Other than looking totally absurd, so long as everything was cut square, will it effect accuracy?

I seem to be having a string of bad luck lately. Also got back my barreled action from SSS that I sent in to have the action trued and timed, prefit barrel instead, purchased and install a 20 moa rail from them as well as have the aftermarket trigger gone through.
No rail is present let alone installed and no telling what else was or wasn't done as there is no invoice stating as such. Nor do they accept phone calls for my to call and find out.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. One of my gunsmithing instructors told me he always puts a steep crown on rifles if there will be a muzzle device and it isn't visible; he preferred it to guide the cleaning rod back in with less chance of damage. Whoever did your barrel likely was of the same school of thought. The square or target crowns look pretty, but they aren't the only way to go. I do it, too.

Can't satisfy the customer by effing it up at one end, try effing it up at the other end.

Can't really tell from the picture, but it does look kind of chattery and not entirely square. But, can't really tell. Good, trustworthy riflesmiths seem to be going extinct.

Response from tech support at POF.

The Crown used on our .308 Rogue is a 60 degree, for our shoulder its industry standard 90 degree.

Can't say I've ever seen a crown like that one before. It would drive me crazy. I'd probably have it re-cut if it were mine. I guess shooting it and see how it does and go from there.

The good thing is, as long as it shoots descent, it's hidden under a muzzle device of some kind so it would rarely be seen.
I did find a crowning tool with those angles, so it obviously gets done enough to having said tool in stock.

Angles are common. The depth they went is the part I don’t understand. It would be the same angle if it were cut a lot shallower. I guess if it shoots, it isn’t a problem. Hope it doesn’t have any negative effects for your sake.

Looks like the ugly crown isn't going to effect accuracy much if at all. Upper 3 rounds are some cheap winchester soft point 150gr ammo that i picked up at Walmart.

The 4 in the black are some 6.5 cm 140gr American Gunner from my rebarreled savage BA Stealth.
