How many grains per pound.

In a recent post someone stated that there are 7000 grains in a pound of powder.
I couldn't remember if that was correct or not, since I'm pretty sure I'm in the early stages of old-timers disease,,, so I Googled up "Weights and Measures" and found 2 places that say there are 5,760 grains per pound???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

What am I missing here?
 
I didn't know that number without going to a caculator. I don't know why, buy I'm able to remember 437.5 gns per ounce.
 
7,000 grains constitute the pound avoirdupois.The avoirdupois system is a system of weights (or, properly, mass) based on a pound of sixteen ounces. It is the everyday system of weight used in the United States.

The easiest way to find it is to go to Google and type in "grains per pound". The result is in fact 7,000 grains = 1 pound.

If you're looking for conversion tables, any ACE Hardware should have a small book called "Handyman in Your Pocket" (author is Glover) for about $10. I keep one in the jobsite trailer at all times.
