How many MO hunters here?

I am still new here, and see alot of hunters from the west and south here, and was curious about the Missouri hunters.

While we are on the topic of MO hunters, I think I will ask a question. Do any of you hunt coyotes in the Conservation Areas? The Missouri Atlas has a list of all the CA's and whether or not they have good coyote populations. I think I'm going to give them a try but I'm curious what you all think.

I live in St. Louis, and hunt mostly Conservation areas and some private ground. I think the CA's get a little pressure, and I don't see near as many coyotes as I would like, but who does? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I have yet to take a bobcat.

Crazywolf, I used to go out your way a bit. Either to the AFB where my friend was stationed, or to buy the factory seconds at Sierra.

bigjohn, My uncle used to live out your way, well in Booneville.

Any of you doing any good, hunting?

Tally-Ho,
I hunt about 50/50 private and public lands.
Although I do better on private land, I call quite a few in on public land. The best way to scout new areas is to use the individual map you can get for each CA and compare it to a arial and topo map of that area. I use a site called TerraServer. That way by studing the maps you can spot the most likely looking places in each area for holding coyotes. it saves on actual legwork but you still have to get out and scout the good areas for sign and best stand locations. print out a copy of the arial photos and take them with you when you scout these new areas. they will make it easier for you to find your way around.

One of my favorite areas is over 5700 acres. the first time I hunted this area I was able to walk in and set up in the dark, I had never been there until then. at first light I Began to call and called in three coyotes within 10 minutes.

I hunt private land mostly until early Jan then I start on the public lands because most of the other seasons have closed by then and no one uses these areas when it is cold out.

hope this helps..

Thanks for the info guys. Crazywolf, I'm going to take your advice and aquire some maps of these places. I hope I can give a report of a successful hunt in the near future. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Thanks again.

Crazywolf

I would love to do that sometime.

I saw a really nice fox during deer season, but was using my 50 cal smoke pole. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'll go back for him later with my 17 Rem.

I call some public land but not much. One thing I've had luck with is to call from it's borders to ground around it. I noticed a lot of sign on the CA's but I think the yotes only hunt it at night.I hunt the Missouri River bottoms alot because after deer season there is hardly any traffic there. Also the coyotes seem to be alot better quality,as in lighter color and longer fur.Haven't called hardly at all since deer season but getting ready to start hitting them good.A get together sounds like a good deal.

I found it, thanks! I'm from SW Missouri, 40 miles east of Springfield, MO. I have access to land with little or no pressure. If someone is interested in helping me learn the ropes, I can supply the land, and lots of it! E-mail me, [url=mailto:sullie@luckylumber.com

I must have been taking a nap, while the groudhogs in the lower field regroup for the next session. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yes, I am here in Missouri too.......I been waiting on a couple of E-mail to find out more about getting this Missouri predator hunt going this winter. I guess I best start doing the E-mailing over to Bolivar, MO. ASAP.

Sullie,
Sounds like your right in my neck of the woods.
I just moved here and have hunted yotes in AZ to no success this past year (but numbers were down) so I heard.
Looking to get into it more now.
any time you want to go out let me know by a PM and will try to read them once per day.

Right now I am trying to get recertified as a hunter ed instructor for Missouri. I was one in AZ right b4 I moved.

Tonk, lets get this thing off the ground, call handishooter and get this rocking!

Sullie,
Sorry about the above post.
thought you said 40 SW of Sprgfield and then saw it was 40 SE of Sprgfield.
Npt quite in your area but still will be willing to meet you and any others.
Can't do much right now, nursing a sore wrist from work. When its healed, I will be ready to splat some things.
Later!
