How many of you guys have an AR-Pistol?

It won't be a surprise to some who know me but I have had an AR handgun about 4 years before I purchased my first AR-15 carbine.
First one was a Rock River. Sold it to a friend and then picked up a non-designated Seekins.

Recently put a Sightron dot scope on it and finally got it sighted in last week at 50 yards.
Didn't use a front rest or anything but a field bag to steady myself.
After shooting at some fragments of clay pigeons I moved to paper.

Then a couple of more groups at 50.

The orange dots drove me crazy with my dot sight-Learned a lesson there.
Then moved in closer and practiced from 25 yards on in from field positions.

I used to have an 11.5" AR pistol...now it's getting engraved so I can turn it into an SBR! They are definitely fun considering it's technically a pistol.

Shot the prototype. No recoil...seriously.

I like it. $200 for pm members?

What is your experience with metal mags in that Seekins lower?
Mine seems to prefer the pmags, they dont fit as tight in the well and drop easier.

Is the brake on that upper a Seekins? The seekins I built I used their brake, works like a charm but hunting it gives me a deaf left ear when fired. Not as bad as other brakes Ive tried or heard.

The brake on both uppers is a Mac Brake.
pmags are probably a little looser than metal, but quick change out has not been a priority for me yet.
In the home/travel mode I use the 30 round pmag.
With the longer upper 20 round mags.

Would any of you guys mind posting up the spec of those? I'm really considering building a pistol with future SBR considerations. I'm torn between 556/223 and 300blk. Any parts I should give special consideration to for cycling reliability?

Mine isn't anything too fancy:
Aero Precision lower
Geissele SD3G trigger & DPMS lpk
Magpul UBR stock (standard carbine buffer/spring)
10.5" 5.56x45 lightweight barrel, melonited, 1/7 twist (.081" port)
Generic upper (DPMS stripped, I think)
DMPS M111 handguard
Daniel Defense fixed sights
MOE grip
M16 BCG
etc.
Cerakoted in Tungsten Gray and Graphite Black.

A LOT of folks will tell you that you need a special buffer and spring to make a short barrel work properly. I am NOT one of those people. I use standard components and drilled the port myself (barrel came from a piston gun and port was undersize anyway.) Work up slowly in ~.005" increments.
This one will probably never be run full auto, so I'd rather have my bolt velocity a little high to insure proper function with any ammo I'll use. (Currently ejects at around 3 o'clock with M855 ammo.)

I built mine with a 7.5 inch 5.56 DPMS barrel. I can't say I'd reccomend that to anyone, unless you like to tinker.

I had to open up my gas port to get it to function reliably with a variety of ammo. I think an extractor with an o-ring behind it is essential on a short barrel like this, and is probably one of the better steps I took.

To be honest I have enjoyed the process of figuring out how to make this gun function better and I am still trying to refine it, but I am kind of odd.

It could be annoying to a lot of people.

Mine. I just got the lower for it but I'm kinda over the pistol already. Gonna look at trading or selling the upper for something else I think. I do really like the piston though. I may look into that for my 243 wssm and my varmint rig

If I hadn't been going through the paperwork for the SBR, my pistol AR days would have been short lived. The AAC Blackout flash hider helps tremendously with the muzzle blast though, it's hard to distinguish between my 10.5" and a regular 16" now. I just found the pistol to be very impractical, the SBR, not so much. :)

For standing, kneeling, and moving at under 100 yards max and primarily under 50 yards, I would rather have AR-pistol set up with a V-Tac sling and dot scope than I would a SBR.
Primary purpose, besides having fun, is home and travel SD.
