How much Rem 700 ADL barrel to cut for supressor?

I’m looking at picking up Rem 700 adl 243 with the factory sporter barrel. I’m sure I’ll need to cut the barrel back to accept being threaded for a suppressor just wondering how much. I’d like to have a surpressed light gun with a 20 in barrel for calling coyotes and wolves. Has anyone else done this?

I figure I’ll have about 200 fps loss in velocity, but I handload so hopefully I can find a faster powder to get some of it back. Either way it’d be worth being able to lose 4 inches in the front of the gun while traveling with the gun on snow machine or bike.

To each his own, but I'd cut that puppy all the way back to 16 inches, screw my can on the end, and run with it.

If it was just for coyotes I would cut it way back and just run lite bullets. This will be used up in Alaska this coming season and I need it to be able to run 80-90 grain bullets with a decent amount of velocity for wolves. I could get the varmint model and cut it back but would like to keep the gun as light as I can with out taking everything off and rebuilding it from the action alone just yet.

I saw a Model 7 at Academy today. Had what looked like an 18 inch sporter barrel and came threaded. I think it was 308. It had a camo stock and a Weaver rail also. It might come in 223. Under $600. Might save money not having to pay to cut and tread the ADL.

I cut back and thread a lot of sporter weight barrels for guys that want to add a suppressor, and it's kind of a 50/50 mix between an 18 inch and 20 inch barrel length.

If it's a pencil barrel, you will need to cut it back until barrel is thick enough to thread for a suppressor. I suppose you could make some kind of adapter, but what a pain.

Thanks 1assassin that’s what I was looking for.
I’ll bring the calipers along with me to sort through what they have and make sure I get one that has enough meat to keep it at 20.

I cut this 243 barrel back to 16 1/2" and threaded it for a suppressor.

Even if you have to put an adaptor on it, that's no big deal and it does NOT affect the performance or accuracy by having one. You just have to make sure everything is on good and TIGHT! Most suppressor companies recommend anywhere from 35 to 45 ft. pounds of torque when attaching a suppressor. If an adaptor is required, at customers request, I will put loc-tite on the threads when installing an adaptor, and torque it in place, then it is up to the customer to make sure their suppressor is properly torqued in place when they screw it onto their barrel.

All my rifles are sporter barrels and I have all of them that are bigger than 22 cal threaded 9/16x24 and get an adapter to go to 5/8. Works great. I have a 20 inch 6.5 creedmoor and I don't lose much velocity.

Thanks for the suggestions of other calibers and shorter barrels lengths but they are not what I’m looking for with this one. I have other calibers and guns . I haven’t been back to Alaska to hunt since I moved to Colorado a couple years ago and am getting this gun with the specific purpose of hunting coyotes and wolves in Alaska. I’m not willing to loss anymore velocity than I have to since we will be in temps from -10 to below -40, wolves are the main target but coyotes, lynx, and fox are far more probable, and shooting opportunities at wolves happen quick and several hundred yards out usually so the flatter shooting the better. If I can’t find a barrel with enough meat to cut back only to 20 I will just order a new barrel, just hoping not to have to do that. 1assassin confirmed that I should be able to find one if I’m picky.

Thanks n8will for the thread adapter suggestion. I didnt think about that although I have them for both my suppressors to run on the 22 cal and under guns I have. Where did you get your 9/16 adapter?

If you don't already have the .243, you can pick up a Remington SPS threaded 243, that is already threaded at 20".

Click link here.
Threaded 243

Looks like you should be able to pick one up for $600'ish listed MSRP is over $700. Probably will do everything you want.
