How often does a coyote need water?

I work just outside of Las Vegas in the middle of the desert. About an hour ago I pulled up next to a water tank that has been leaking water and there where 2 coyotes standing there. I watched them run off into some small hills about 600 yards away. I have been out in the desert for about 5 miles around the mine and I have never found water anywhere. I am wondering how long these coyotes can go in 90 degree weather without water and how far away they will go? Im hoping to be able to get on them tomorrow afternoon after work.

ive wondered the same thing. here in washington they have guzzlers (basically a trough in the ground with 2 small tin roof lean to's) the tin slopes down to the middle over the trough and when it rains or condensates water goes in the trough. i actually found a den under one of the lean to's but im not sure if its badger or coyote. there was coyote tracks so i was leaning towards coyote. it was about 16 inches round and after sticking my head under the lean to and shining my light i could see it went down about 4 feet and or more but couldnt see further due to me not fitting under it. ill have to go get some pics later.

They will drink every day.

The distance they travel from water depends on the food supply. If food is good, and competition is sparse, they they will stay closer to water.

If there's lots of competition and food is sparse, they will travel farther from water.

Now is the denning season too, so they are territorial and protective.

To go a few miles for water is not a hardship for a coyote. It is liken to us walking across the house for a drink of water in the kitchen. They are tough & I've seen them live in very extreme dry conditions, miles from water.

when they den they will den near some kind of water weather its a good source or old water in a log or puddle.
the female will walk the pups to water every day. if you find the water you can find a denning trail of tracks to lead you to the den.

Water is usually more plentiful this time of year.
When the pups are on their own and the dry season drags on coyotes have been known to go great distance for water, even 20 mile jaunts have been recorded.
