Just wondering what the average lifespan of a coyote is. I'm curious, and no one I've talked to seems to know for sure. Thanks

They don't live long if I see em LOL. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Thats a hard one to answer, I mean you have to include hunting, trapping, poisons, being hit by cars and I'm sure a few other things. To be honest, I don't think the coyote lives in the wild much more then four or five years if it's lucky, the average is probably less. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Excluding traps, poisons, shotgun shell baits, black helicopters, interstate hiways, roadside shooters, PO'ed farmers, mange, parvo, rabies, and serious predator callers? If a coyote were lucky enough to die a natural (not captive) death of old age, he'd be between 10-14 years old. They can live to 18 in captivity.

Thanks NASA, I just learned something, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I had no idea they could live that long. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There has been a "shooting coyotes" program on the outdoor channel for the past couple of weeks that says the average coyote lives 4 years?

Hey, what days and times does the "Shooting Coyotes" show come on. I was just saying to myself the other day that there are no T.V. shows on to help educate someone new to the sport of preditor hunting, like myself. It's aweful hard to learn to call without actually hearing someone who knows what they are doing, doing it. And I hate buying videos because they're expensive and you don't know what your getting until you whatch it. Most seem to be geared towards entertainment too, and not education.

Chadx, most of the available coyote videos have been discussed on this board. A search of the archives will give you a good idea of which ones are worth the trouble. There are some really good ones out there.

Doug, either you misunderstood or they're pounding sand. When a wild coyote gets sick, his survival odds are less than 30%. A captive coyote gets treatment by a vet. Check some of the zoo websites for "coyote lifespan". Those pampered puppies will live on even after their teeth start to fall out, in the protective care of captivity. In the wild, a toothless coyote might last a few month, at best.

John Graham from Montana caught an old male that had been collared 11 or so years before, the coyote was supposed to be 13 when he killed it. T.20
