how to convert .wav to mp3

I have a sound I made on my computer and want to save it to mp3. It's currently in a .wav file so I can't play it on my minaska outdoors. I'm heading for Kansas soon for coyotes and bobcats and it's a super-secret, top notch cat sound. But, I need to covert it soon! Please help?

When you find or create a realllly good bobcat noise, Randy, chances are excellent that it's got some very high-frequency elements to it. To best preserve those parts when saving/converting to .mp3 in GoldWave, choose the Layer 3, 48000Hz, mono 320kbps setting. (I mention this because it's not an obvious choice on the pick-list. But if you scroll above the default setting of Layer 3, 44000 kHz stereo 128kbps, it's up near the top.)

Won't much matter if you're not using a cone-type speaker though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Blaze Audio's RipEditBurn is a killer ap. if you must use codecs. It even rips copy protected cd's and WMA's using an anolog mode. 14-day trial version (which is minus a few bells and whistles) is free for the download.
